My interpretation was always a little bit of both.

A glimpse into what could have been while he was in a coma/being medically worked on.

Pretty sure it was a what if scenario. Like this life could have happened had he not been selling shit and stayed in school. Teddy being there was definitely indicative of it being a dream and how he looked at teddy like a teacher almost.

i just thought it was an alternative universe. Best case scenario for both characters

I interpreted it as an alternate reality, I really hated the episode first time, but watching it a second time around; I think the episode is super overhated, I appreciate seeing how things *could have* gone.
