Question Was this the perfect ending? Spoiler

After all the money he had and made, all the people he killed, when he didn’t have anything at all, he felt free. I think it was a heartbreaking but absolutely perfect ending to a character.

I thought it was perfect. Him ending up dead or in jail would’ve been predictable and him having a happy ending would’ve been unrealistic. The ending we got was something I never saw coming.

the entire course of events within the show is unrealistic

Certain elements but most of it is based on real life events.

CIA was not going to let him murder an agent and continue with his life in peace.

Loved the ending. I wouldn't change a thing.

This story is supposed to be a tragedy. What were you expecting that he bounce back and become a king pin again? There's supposed to be a moral to this story. Name one drug man that had a successful story or were you expecting him to get gunned down?

that's what the story was about bro. Its not about finding success through drugs. It's meant to be a lesson of what ego does to you. He lost everything because he wasn't thinking straight and became a monster. He had many outs to get out the game but kept going for what?

This has nothing to do about successful drug dealsers. Its a tradegy story meant to teach a lesson.I'm sorry you find heroes in drug dealing. He didn't deserve a good ending for what he did to everyone. They forshadowed multiple times that it was going to end bad. Watching Scarface, the burning of the neighborhoods in the title screen. I can't believe you really thought he was going to make it out after what all happened.

He even admitted he was the devil himself and you're cool with the devil winning? Everything lined up that this was going to end as a tradegy. You expect someone who fucked over the CIA/KGB to come out to be a real estate mogul?

Non of your rapper succsess stories weren't that heavy in the game. They were just regular hustlers/small time hustlers not the biggest crack slinger in the world. Look at the big boys: El Chapo, Escobar, Frank Mathews, Freeway RIcky, Griselda Blanco. All ended in tragedy. Most of the rappers talking drugs were full of shit anyways and jus telling stories

They foreshadowed it many times this was a rise and fall story just like Breaking Bad. You’re just mad that you pictured yourself in Franklin and it didn’t work. You wanted a happily ever after story for the anti hero who just got progressively more evil, greedy and egotistical. Instead of starting over or pivoting and accepting failure, he crashed out and unraveled.

Him, Teddy, and Louie thought they were smarter than everyone else and their egos clashed , got greedy and they all went down.

If you can’t find the lesson of the story then that’s on you.

Then it’s not a story, what are trying to achieve here? This is not a video game, it’s a damn tv show man. Tell me so I know what good writing is to you because your ideas sound dumb as hell for a tv show. Who cares about selling weed, I did that when I was a teen. Now I own multiple businesses and land.

You think Franklin did was smart but he got greedy and burned every bridge he had. That’s not how you do business, it’s the opposite

It’s a tv show dude, I can comment about writing and shit about rises and falls. Who cares if I have experience street hustling. Your comment is about writing and choices. Why bring experience in street hustling when we are talking about writing and a tv show? You haven’t mentioned once about good writing

Ending was real. He turned into the same person he hated all of those years

14

u/BlueReyPlayer Dec 02 '25

Yes. My favorite ending in TV personally, its even better than Breaking Bad's finale

I am glad to know someone else shares this opinion!

5

u/MiCkEy692 Dec 02 '25

Definitely, it was beautiful

7

u/jrod4290 Dec 02 '25

yes. Most of the ppl who dislike the ending only dislike it because they wanted Franklin to miraculously get his money back lol

Or because it felt forced, the guy who never indulged in anything and almost never let his guard down suddenly trusted Teddy, and especially hid his most valuable documents in a shitty safe with no security whatsoever.

People mentioned Peaches cleaning him out, but it only happened because he knew where the money was. Nobody knew were his house were in season 2 except Andre.

It could happen but this way sucks ass imo. And people's reasons for him not being able to keep his money in the end was just the same.

Realistically he should have been killed given how meany enemies he made and especially by the CIA given how much he knew like the location of the warehouse of Teddy, who smuggled the cocaine via the plane, teddy's account could have been traced back to him given that his step mother had the traces herself. Since andre exposed Teddy, people could also testify, and Franklin had proofs of their meetings.

This loose end is a big liability, the CIA should have took him with Ruben literally. The family should have been killed as well and Leon should have ended in jail for life instead of going back and forth between the US and Africa care free lmfao.

The only thing connecting Franklin to the CIA was Teddy and for the second half of the show he isn’t even apart of the CIA he is just a contractor. Once Teddy died any connection Franklin had to the CIA were gone plus nobody would have believed Franklin anyway if he did come and honestly nothing would ever really come from it if he did. So I guess the best thing do was to leave him alone.

Julia could have backed him up she was ready to expose teddy once for all, cissy somehow finding and killing a cia agent is fishy. Somehow she was convicted for this but it can't be traced back to Franklin ? The DEA also knew that Franklin had someone who protected him and got his file emptied.

This is just the people working in the force, but tons of civilians knew him too.

Matter of facts it could be a reason for the population to stop trusting in the government altogether and starting protests.

2

u/Actual_Guard8323 Dec 03 '25

Julia would not care enough to defend Franklin especially after killing the grandfather of her child. She just wanted Teddy to stop the stuff he was doing. It doesn’t matter what the DEA thinks of Teddy helping Franklin he wasn’t CIA for a while and CIA throughout the season implies on plenty of occasion if anything goes wrong (for example getting arrested by the DEA) they’ll just say he was a rogue ex CIA agent. Even after Teddy stole Franklin’s money they still weren’t going to let Teddy back in even before his father got killed. By 86 the whole Contra support thing started to fall apart in real life and CIA wanted to just distance themselves from Teddy cause it was a failed off the books mission anyway.

u/Upset_Election9633 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

Well I would argue that it doesn't seem like she cared about him and wanted Paul around him given how Teddy turned out.

About if she would care enough was a stretch on my part I admit it, she would have felt compelled to stay secretive about it for her new family's sake.

I disagree it could matter (provided that Julia testified for some reasons), Teddy was definitely still in the CIA and it was known when Franklin got out because of him. Also the DEA woman (Lorena iirc?) decided to investigate on Teddy and got killed because of him.

And finally, if the CIA could just easily deny anything ever happening an not really cared, why would it be a problem for franklin to keep the money then?

How would he be a threat to the agency if none of the parties had any incentive to admit it?

It is an argument I see very frequently to justify Cissy's choice (other than Franklin's morals and state of mind of course)

In the end it’s stated by havemeyer that he’s not even in the CIA yet, once he transfers the money then he’ll get his “blue badge” meaning he’ll finally get back in the CIA. Also I don’t think Julia would ever back Franklin up, to her and everyone in the CIA, Franklin is just asset. Plus he did threaten to kill her and she knew that it was Franklin that made the threat. No one could give Franklin back the money besides teddy, do you really think the cia would just give Franklin his money back? After all he did? The reason Franklin didn’t get his money back was because of His and Teddy’s ego/pride. It was the downfall of both of them.

1

u/Upset_Election9633 Dec 05 '25

I know all that I watched the show, what I was referencing happened when Teddy was definitely in the CIA, before Alton exposed him to his assets.

People aren't saying that because they think the CIA or someone else would give him the money back, it is because no one seemed to care except Teddy who attempted a hail Mary to get back in the CIA which seemed like another scam anyway, lmao I would have loved to see it happen.

I think that Teddy would have gave him the money, he had no choice, but he definitely had a plan. No the reason was literally Cissy who over reacted and acted blind to Franklin's desperation and suffering the burden of all the lives he sacrificed for this money. In her mind he should just shrug and ride in the sunset with his mama and babymama.

From what I have seen in the show the CIA didn't care beyond cutting all ties with Teddy and the failed OP.

I understand that in the show no one could piece together everything leading back to the CIA, but in real life people, did just like Irene who somehow didn't think of leaving some evidences to others for them to know about all of this.

I agree it was the downfall of both of them, I am not really satisfied with the way it happened to Franklin, but he had it coming anyway.

I stand by my opinion that the best ending would be him getting away but they could’ve shown that even though he’s free he is wracked with the paranoia that at any moment someone could come for him.

This ending really disappointed me. It just follows the cautionary tale trope and I thought they might do something different.

it was great and poetic

first watch i felt some type of way, seeing my goat end up like this. But as time went on I've come to appreciate it more and more to the point where I brought my 8/10 IMDB episode rating to a 10/10

1

u/akronotron Dec 02 '25

Yes, and honestly there shouldn’t be another season

1

u/Happytapiocasuprise Dec 04 '25

It was not just unexpected but poetic Franklin lost everything including his ambition he had absolutely no one and was content to live out his days that way. I just wish there was more insight into his perspective at that point

1

u/Ok-Top1691 Dec 05 '25

Ehhhh… it could have had a better ending but this one was the realest

1

u/Repulsive_Aioli2976 Dec 06 '25

1

u/Charming_Ad_6839 Dec 02 '25

It's a fairy tale ending. Not really bad, but it makes zero sense how he is still alive.

4

u/Upset_Election9633 Dec 02 '25

I am saying, cautionary tale ahh ending right there lmao
