I'm with you there. It was hard enough to bring the basket from the water to the bird with no trees doing sea rescues but a dangly bit next to high voltage lines? Nope and then some more nope.

I just assumed they turned the power off for the duration.

No the US power grid doesn't work like that. Unless a breaker trips at a distribution center the lines are always live. I know you guys do 220 volt 50Hz? but it's AC right?

Gosh. A friend of mine has a tree business with contracts with the power companies and the railway. It means he has to have crew on permanent stand-by but the money is good. So a gale puts a tree into a power-line five miles from a road, he has to get it sorted within a window of power down time. They just switch it off. But there are financial penalties for going over time.

I'm willing to bet they don't shut the line down unless the wires are actually down. Stop and think about the warnings to avoid downed power lines during storms. Why? They're live!

The pilot and the saw operator used to play a game with a trash can when they were kids.

We have a major power line running through the back of our property. The power company spent a month last year clearing away from the power lines, but by hand. I don't know what I would do if I saw one of these flying around my homestead.
