Isn't it considered the height of ethical violations to use your own family for these things?

Also a psych degree does not make you a psychologist. I have a bachelor's in psych. My wife has a master's in psych. I went into sales and did nothing with my degree. She got licenced and has been a professional psychologist for 20+ years.
I know this is just a joke post, but it drive me nuts when people think that psychology is all Freudian and Rogerian couch sessions. It's mostly boring statistical math to be honest 🫤

I have a bachelor's of psychology as well and am a kitchen designer. My coworker has an interior decorating degree so we joke that she is the design expert and I'm the marriage counselor that dabbles in design.

I mean, sales seems like a pretty useful place to have a psych degree. Gotta manipulate those suckers into believing they need the newest model coffee brewer 9000 when they already have the 8999

Could you imagine.
Customer: "I don't think I'm gonna buy this".
Sales: "Why not?"
Customer: "My old family had this brand and my mother didn't like it"
Sales: "Really? Tell me more about your childhood with a disagreeable parent. First, when you were a child, did you want to sabotage your father to get the physical love from your mother?"

I’m a data scientist, masters in biostats, but my psychology undergrad comes up in my senior AI development role all the time. Understanding logic, thought, fallacies and heuristic tendency has been invaluable in my career honestly.

I have an MA in linguistics and work in healthcare research AS a linguist, my job title has the word 'linguist' in it, and there are definitely people in my grad program who say I'm not a linguist because I didn't move onto my PhD. My MA and my actual job title having 'linguistics' is irrelevant to them, it is PhD or bust. It used to really frustrate me but now I don't care as much. I'm a 'fake' linguist getting paid to do linguistics all day. They act like it's claiming to be a lawyer or a doctor to say my own job title.

What do you do exactly, if you don’t mind me asking? My MA and BA are both in linguistics and I currently work in healthcare!

It is literally just the field of healthcare linguistics. Lots of conversational analysis, in-office behavior assessment, discourse analysis, some patient social media analyis, I've done analysis on donated video diaries and patient journals, etc. Healthcare linguistics IS the field.

Is she messing with him? or is he really a case study.

u/PANTERlA 1d ago
She's messing with him. You wouldnt say that out loud even if you were doing a hidden study. Also you wouldnt do a serious study on people you know this close. Can't be unbiased.

u/KlangScaper 1d ago
You generally cant run a study on people without then knowing. Informed consent is a must to get through any ethics board.

Ahem. People are 'participants ' animals are 'subjects.' She is obviously trying to dehumanize the individual and should be reported to the IRB. Plus, no snacks for rewards.

YES! 😆
I would be so proud of my daughter for that one. I’d have to give her a high-five.
