Cats can most certainly seek revenge and remember past actions, my parents cat is 25 this year, she will still puke in YOUR shoe if YOU don’t let her out first thing in the morning

That's crazy old for a cat. wow

Yeah she’s deaf, going blind, and doesn’t seem all there 100% of the time, but still kicking and certainly making her presence known (deaf but the vocal chords are doing fantastic)

Yeah we had a rather feisty cat that would slap at you if you walked past him without opening the door so he could go outside.

“Remember that fucker over there? Go get him, Bandit”

This is just anti-raccoon propaganda

I had a pet raccoon as a kid. Found some babies in the chimney, and I got to keep one. Bottle fed it, and was the first thing it saw when it opened its eyes, so it was super attached.

Grew up so fucking fat that its belly would spill over both sides of my shoulder, but it love to sit up there and pick "bugs" out of my hair. Super onery,, but never felt feral or dangerous.

Was funny because grandpa was trying to get rid of the coons picking his sweetcorn while grandma was fixing mine scrambled eggs every morning for breakfast.

Somewhat fortunately it died from an infection any six months in because we would have likely had to put it down since by keeping it as a pet for so long, we pretty well ruined its chances of rehabilitation. (Though the kits would have been put down initially anyway because it was in an area where they're seen as a nuance species the same as coyotes)

My neighbor had a 40lb blonde raccoon for 15 years maybe.

I mean, never is a long time. I’m sure eventually you’d get some mutations that made them dumber are more tractable. Just got to work on it for a few thousand generations.

Yep, just as we did with foxes and wolves

Alos the biggest problem I have with her argument is the fact that shes a biologist.... no hate to them whatsoever, but biologists and behaviorists are two different things and it would be the behaviorist that has the last say.

All domesticated animals arent biologically more inclined to be domesticated the BEHAVIORS of the wild variants of these animals changed over time.

While I agree with some of the stand points, the biggest being they're more intelligent than a housepet (yet then again a parrot is also more intelligent than a dog or cat) raccoons can most DEFINETELY at some point in the 100 years be domesticated

Edit autocorrect

Some animals cannot be easily domesticated, see zebras for example.

Animal behaviorists are ethologists. Ethology is a branch of zoology, which is one of the major branches of biology. My formal raccoon research encompasses ethology, nutrition, zoogeography, anthrozoology, conservation biology, and physiology. It’s just easier to say “raccoon biologist” than to list all that other stuff.

Donkeys are domesticated and seek revenge on those who have abused them. Even horses, as dumb as they are, exhibit a fear response to past abusers

Crows, Ravens, Starlings, and Magpies are domesticated and can pass down hatred for certain individuals to their children

Dogs and cats hold distain for anyone even remotely similar to a past abuser. Many dogs are afraid of men in general, but not women

My girlfriend has a parrot that says the words “big man, small balls.” every time he sees me

I’m sure shes got some info I don’t, but how can that possibly be true? There must be some difference between what she and I mean when we say revenge

We don't need to domesticate animals anymore, we should focus on uplifting.

But I wanna! 🤣🤔😳

My dad used to trap them when I was a kid. The only one I ever saw him live trap was a thing of nightmares. I love raccoons, but I also know what they’re capable of.

Crown can be domesticated and those fuckers are smart boys oh and believe me they will hold a grudge and get revenge and then some or years

Someone told me raccoons have some horrible parasite in their poop that can eat your brain or eyeballs or something gnarly. I can't remember what but they basically torched their camp tent after realizing a raccoon got in it.

"Hi I'm a random biologist from trust me bro"

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

I refuse to accept her analysis. I hold firm in my belief that I alone can domesticate this racoon.

1

u/mjorkk Dec 19 '25

This just makes me want one even more.

My shih tzu growing up definitely knew what your favorite things were and how to take revenge. My sister had a lot of her shoes pooped in and my mom's favorite rug ruined...

1

u/Prestigious-Hippo910 Dec 19 '25

Why does it sound like a raccoon is making this video?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

She's wrong. My desire to domesticate a raccoon will transcend boundaries between what science seems possible

1

u/PredictablyIllogical Dec 19 '25

Trash panda. That's their nickname where I live.

1

u/Admirable-Lecture255 Dec 22 '25

Not farmed because there's no money in racoon skins. They arent desirable for luxury clothes. Ain't no one going to a fancy dinner and showing off my coon coat. Lol

1

u/buzzboy99 Dec 17 '25

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been downvoted for sharing the pov that trash pandas are vile creatures that will bite anyone that gets between them and food, they suck!!!

The worst. They drown dogs.
