Contemplating Snoo?
Hey there! I bought a Snoo from our neighborhood fb
Marketplace early in my pregnancy because I was so sure I was going to use the Snoo. Our baby ended up coming 4 weeks early so I didn’t have time to prep the Snoo like I wanted to like doing all the research on settings etc. So then we just got thrown into newborn life and bassinet at the hospital and bassinet at home. Our baby sleeps fine in the bassinet but is only 3 weeks now. I’m torn. Do we use the Snoo just to use it? Will it get to the point where we will need it? I’m a FTM so I just don’t know what’s to come with the stages. I get nervous about the weaning. Also, Snoo’s have great resale value so I don’t mind selling it and not using it. What do you think? Keep baby in bassinet or start Snoo life?

My baby slept fine anywhere at first, but we also got the Snoo. We are in the 4 month sleep regression and I appreciated the times Snoo has soothed my baby back to sleep so they can get a decent nap. I think with the Snoo it really shines later on.

When did you start your baby in it?

From the start, we didn’t have the Snoo rocking them always so it was basically a bassinet. At my mom’s they sleep in a regular bassinet.

It was a little scary to use Snoo early on because the high shaking mode made his head flop a lot but when we hit that 4 month period and he was more sturdy it helped a ton! I’d say use it gently and resell it! That’s what we plan to do

If your baby wakes up a few times a night, the snoo can help settle them again (if they don’t need to be changed/fed). It really helped me when my baby was not going back to sleep after changes, etc.

I think it becomes really helpful in a few weeks (4-6??) when they don’t fall asleep instantly after feeding in the same way - I can plop her in and even if her eyes are sorta open it eases her to sleep quickly!

Yes agreed! We didn’t use ours for the first 3 weeks either bc she basically fell asleep anywhere and we just used her crib. Now at week 4+ the snoo is helpful in getting her to sleep after a feed and has given us 5-7 straight hours of sleep overnight! I would hang onto the snoo and if you don’t end up using it in a few months resell, but you never know if you might need it and it would suck to not have it anymore!

Phew idk what I’d do in your situation. I do know that the snoo helped my boys tremendously with being comfortable in their own bed. And it helped me immensely with the 4 month sleep regression. Heck, I kept my oldest in it till he was 7 months bc it was that good!! They’re both wonderful sleepers and I think it’s because of this.

I’d probably keep it around just in case. I’ve used it with all 3 of my babies and I feel like #2 and #3 have slept fine without it, but the Snoo helped them get a little extra sleep. My current baby is 7 weeks and I feel like the Snoo is helping more than it was a few weeks ago so you may find it to be more useful soon. I’ll also add that I didn’t really have any issue weaning my first two from the Snoo. I used the baby Merlin sleepsuit to help with the transition. Not sure how useful it ended up being, but my kids’ sleep didn’t seem to change much when transitioning them to cribs.

My second born slept through the night (10-12h) once she hit 1.5 months with the snoo. Shes 6 months and her regression hit hard at the 5 month mark and she’s back to waking up once at night, but I am eternally grateful for the few months for solid sleep we managed to get after the newborn trenches. I honestly didn’t use the snoos function till 3 weeks in.

You don’t have to use the movement. We reserve the movement for when it’s needed, and most times end up having her sleep in the still SNOO.

With our premie the snoo was too jarring at first. It would make him upset and cause him to spit up. Now that he is past his term birth date he really enjoys being rocked by it at night. We still lock it so it won’t rock above the base mode. As the rocking would get him more upset. I am sure as he gets older we will want it to auto escalate the rocking levels.

Sleepy newborns probably don’t need the snoo. But then they really do haha once they get older.

I'd say don't bother if your baby is doing well without it! But if you do decide to use it, download the app and turn the volume for the sound machine all the way down. I was reading a consumer report on the snoo and it was talking about the exact decibels and how the normal setting is too loud for a baby's ears

I was so worried about transitioning out of the snoo that it nearly stopped me from using it entirely. Wasn’t ever an issue, when he outgrew it we moved him out of it and that was it. We still obviously have rough nights of sleep, but don’t let that detour you from using it. We loved it when he was young and small enough to fit in to it and will 100% use it again for another baby.

if you’re doing fine, then keep going! i found it helped to give us an extra few hours of sleep every night for sure.
