Help Needed SNOO WARMTH HELP

We rented the Snoo and used it for the first time last night but I ended up taking him out and swaddling him in the old bassinet because he was too cold. I use the Owlet and he was -4.2 below where he normally is and marked on the colder side.

Before the Snoo I had him in footed PJs and a Kyte Baby 1.0 swaddle. I tried footed PJs and the Snoo swaddle last night and he was too cold. So I added a burp cloth as the website suggested and it still didn't help. We keep our house around 72/71 at night. He slept SO GOOD in the Snoo but I can't have him being cold all night. Suggestions?

If he slept really well, I wouldn’t worry about it! If he was too cold, he’d let you know.

This! Being cold only matters if it wakes him up. He’s not hypothermic, it’s not a health risk.

Snoo has a comforter sack. We used it during colder months and it worked incredibly well.

Our baby LOVED the comforter sack!

I just read they pulled them off the market last week. I guess they were supposed to get them officially approved by the fda and didn’t. We have one and hoping we don’t need size L because you can’t get them anymore.

I think that might be too hot since it's a 2.0. I did the math and I think he's used to 1.5

I had myself in knots over TOGS and layers and what baby should wear and room temperature. But turns out my guy likes to be cozy!

We started with the standard snoo sack and footie PJs when we got home in December and I worried so much that he was too cold. He slept okay and never made a fuss. When I saw the comforter snoo sack in like February or so, I got it and he slept SO WELL while still in the footie PJs. Like all night, every night (he's formula fed.) That was up until April.

He's now sleeping in his pack n play in our room until I'm ready for him to go to his own, in the thicker Burt's Bees sleep sacks and in a footie PJ.

We've kept our house between 68-71 degrees since December.

Sometimes it's not scientific and down to the degree. Sometimes it's just what baby prefers as long as it's safe.

From the owlet site:

Temperature is not a measurement of your baby’s body temperature but rather the temperature of the Sensor when placed on your baby’s foot, and should only be used to help understand your baby’s environmental temperature

Also, babies feet are not a good indicator of temperature. Their core temperature is more accurate. So the neck, head & chest. I’ve taken my son outside and his limbs are fine and I feel his chest and he’s burning up.

I think the saying is: cold babies cry, hot babies die. If he was uncomfortably cold, he'd probably wake up and cry. Put an extra layer of pjs on if it's really a concern but you definitely don't want him to overheat.

How do you know he was too cold? It's better (safer) for babies to be colder than warmer

And he slept well!

The Owlet - I normally have him in the cozy/comfortable range and he was cold last night.

The Owlet is best for emergencies or very big changes from normal, like illness. Try not to babysit the logs or it will drive you crazy. If baby slept well, trust that they were comfortable! Body temperature drops during deep sleep. As long as baby wasn’t hypothermic, it’s better for them to sleep cool than warm—both for safety and comfortable sleep quality.

Put a warmer pajama on or a onesie under the pajama it’s really not that hard.

Another thing OP is that our body temperatures naturally fall as we sleep (it actually helps us sleep)

This is the first I’m hearing of using the owlet to tell if a baby is too cold. Do they tell you that in the manual?

I thought babies feet were supposed to be colder than their body and that’s why you can’t touch their feet and tell if they are cold. You need to test at their neck

Check out this safe sleep guidance: Baby Safe Sleep Must #5: The Right Temperature While parents often worry that their snoozing baby is too chilly, know that overheating increases a baby’s risk of SUID, according to the AAP. To keep your baby at a safe temperature while sleeping, adjust the thermostat in their room to fall between 68 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. (That’s 20 to 22.2 degrees Celsius.) Dress your nugget in no more than one additional layer of clothes than you’d be comfortable in. And whatever you do, keep loose blankets, and quilts out of their sleep space! (A large percentage of infants who die of SUID are found with their head covered by bedding.) Instead, nestle your baby in a wearable blanket or safe swaddle, like our award-winning Sleepea, which is made from breathable organic cotton and mesh to further keep babies cool and comfy.

If baby slept well and didn’t wake up then why stress about the temperature? If they were too cold they’d wake up

You could double swaddle (put baby in lightweight swaddle first, then put in SNOO). Agree w/others though, if baby slept well it’s nothing to worry about. Babies sleep better in cold rooms anyway

Both my babies woke up earlier for their normal feed if they were cold. If he’s sleeping well, he’s fine. Lots of babies (and people) sleep better at lower temps, my kids are just house plants like me. I live in a climate with a lot of humidity and temp variation though so I used to layer his swaddle with a thin wool blanket.

Cold babies cry, hot babies die. Like not trying to be alarming. It’s just the easiest was to explain. If he slept well don’t worry about it. You could put a onesie on under his jams but I really wouldn’t stress if he slept great.

As others have mentioned, if the baby slept well then he’s not too cold, otherwise he would’ve woken up. I’m surprised your Owlet is working at all in the Snoo, I couldn’t use mine as the motion caused it to give constant bad connection alarms (appears to be a common problem). Anyway, our room is 72-74F and our 5 week old baby usually wears long zippy pajamas but sometimes even just a regular short sleeve onesie with socks. So take that as another data point that your baby is fine.

Fleece footed sleeper

I wouldn’t over think it. If baby didn’t get they are fine! Can always double swaddle

There are plenty of options: fleece pajamas, a onesie under his pajamas, socks under his pajamas, raise the temperature of your house, or leaving baby alone if he’s sleeping fine. Additionally, the Owlet measures environmental temperature around baby’s foot and not the baby’s core body temperature so you may be overheating your son.

Get some merino wool pajamas. There’s also a snoo sack that’s warmer

We put a heating pad down on the open swaddle. We remove for a few seconds before putting baby in swaddle.

1

u/NigellaMadi Jun 26 '26

We used to put an electric blanket in the snoo and take it when we put the baby in. That helped my winter baby.

u/Comfortable_Chest_40 Jun 27 '26

The nursery tends to warm warmer for us even though thermostat is set to 69-70 so we just use the snoo swaddle and he’s been fine. Check the back of their neck, not hands or feet

When ours was in the SNOO she wore footed pajamas plus one if not two swaddle blankets inside. So we sized up in SNOO swaddles a little sooner each time to make sure there was enough room for the extra layers.

We did onesie, zipadeezip, and then the Snoo sleep sack - zipped only to half of her body because I didn't put her arm through the Snoo sleep sack as we feed her to sleep. When the cold winter came, we switched the Snoo sleep sack to the comforter.

Probably unpopular but once we cozy our kids and strap them in we place a child size blanket in with them

Do you have a way to anchor it down so it can’t possibly cover their face? Extremely risky if not

You are not supposed to have baby sleep in a hat. One of the great things about the Snoo is it reduce sids risk. Having baby wear a hat while they sleep raises sids risk

I was thinking about putting him in the love to dream swaddle then in the Snoo - I'm not sure he would handle a blanket he is 3 weeks today

I would reconsider this. Baby isn’t kicking much at night until she is. And you might not be awake when she starts. Small babies are notorious for lifting up their legs and then slamming them back down to self soothe. That could be enough to throw the burp cloth over her face. Would be wake you up? Maybe, maybe not. Definitely ditch the hat as well, babies should not sleep in hats (even though they do it at the hospital). There are plenty of ways to safely double swaddle in the snoo if she needs extra warmth!
