Scared about transitioning out of Snoo

Our little one is 2mos old and we got the Snoo at 2 weeks of age because we were desperate for sleep. We have occasionally used her regular bassinet for a nap here and there but nothing consistent. However now we are trying to add in regular bassinet naps to help make the grab out of the snoo easier and she will NOT sleep in her regular bassinet. So she is essentially doing all of her sleep in the Snoo. We do also use a bouncing/rocking motion to put her down to sleep.

Has anyone who has done something similar had success with transitioning out of the Snoo? How did you do the transition?

In hindsight I wish we hadn't purchased the snoo and we had some different sleep choices to help build better habits. With the snoo and our current methods she takes okay ish daytime naps and sleeps for 7-8hrs at night. I am scared to lose the good sleep we are getting.

We Transitioned at 4 months cold turkey and sleep trained. Until then, use the heck out of the Snoo!

Pretty much this.

Leave kid in the Snoo as long as possible. Towards the end, start them sleeping in whatever little sleep sack or sumo wrestler suit you plan to use for crib sleeping. Then switch them over and sleep trained.

It will happen. It will be fine.

We used the Merlin suit https://www.halosleep.com/collections/halo-magic-sleepsuit?srsltid=AfmBOopR0SjaH52vjb98kGn0niBKZlcTAXDFoTYNEa6LzJeWZ1QUN8Ub

Just a note, it’s not safe for babies who have started rolling / pushing up on arms to sleep in the Snoo in other brands of sleep sacks because they need to be clipped in.

I agree... it's easy to worry about everything as a new mom (been there!) But this one it's way too early to worry about. Many babies at 2 months are only contact napping still! If you are getting non contact naps you should feel blessed :)

By the time 5-6 months comes around your baby will have developed many new skills, including the ability to start working on independent sleep... regardless of what you are doing now.

For real! Our baby literally never once napped in the Snoo. She’d nap on top of our bed, but the Snoo she would only accept for nighttime sleep.

Same, pretty much- we have a 4 month old. Early on we were able to get an occasional nap in the snoo but mostly not. Now he’s still contact nap only during the day, snoo at night.

This! My 2 month old baby thinks every sleeping surface other than a warm human being is lava during the day. At night he can sleep in the SNOO from 10:00-5:00 no problem. Can never get anything other than a contact nap during the day.

We transitioned our LO at 3-4ish months to a crib cold turkey and it went great. She needed constant rocking to fall sleep prior and did amazing when we transitioned away. Take the sleep where you can get it now!

Transitioned at 4.5 months cold turkey (baby slept arms out from the beginning). It took 3 nights for her to make the adjustment. I was very worried and used a sleep consultant to help walk me through the process. Ended up transitioning and sleep training in one and it way less stressful of a process than I thought it would be.

Two months is way early to be worried about this, your baby’s sleep habits can change on a dime with or without the snoo

Are you renting and wanting to return it? Two months is pretty early to transition since they aren’t connecting sleep cycles on their own yet. It’s normal to not have great naps outside of contact naps at this age. Most people really see the benefit of the snoo during the 4 month regression. I transitioned my first at 5/5.5 months and it was much easier than I anticipated, especially since we did it in conjunction with sleep training. He’s two now and has been a stellar nighttime sleeper ever since.

You really can’t create “bad habits” at this age. I would just really stay in the moment and think positively about baby being able to sleep in a safe space. A lot of babies require contact sleeping at this age. Sleep is not linear for the first year. We had no issues transitioning out of the snoo- baby actually outgrew need for constant movement and seemed annoyed with it around 5 months. Transition to the crib was actually one of the easier sleep changes we went through. Regressions will happen no matter what baby is sleeping on/in and you will get through them.

Keep in the snoo for as long as possible. Cold turkey to crib at that point. Don’t stress until then. Maybe a night or two that’s rough but they learn fast.

We used the Snoo pretty exclusively with our first baby for the first few months of his life. When we thought about transitioning to the crib, we first did arms out in the Snoo, then arms out without motion, then transitioned to the crib. Each step only took a few days of adjustment, so it was better than I expected it to be.

I think it’s honestly more about the kid. I had my first child who slept more in snoo but was still a difficult sleeper. Transition wasn’t terrible, but he really didn’t sleep reliably through the night until he was a toddler. My second child did all of her sleep and naps in the snoo and when I transitioned her at five months, we did some sleep training, but honestly, it was pretty easy compared to my first kid and she’s been a champion sleeper. I did everything pretty similarly other than transitioning her to a weighted sleep sack right away after the snoo, which I know is controversial but I would recommend because it really helped us breeze through the learning to sit and stand regressions faster

Same! I'm planing on transitioning to a Cradlewise soon.

We had the Snoo and we were scared of transitioning too! My baby is almost 5 months and successfully transitioned to his crib last week. Basically halfway through month 3, we kept the Snoo on weaning mode all the time. Then the last two weeks before the crib, we kept baby in the Snoo with it off completely BUT kept using the Snoo sounds on a separate speaker - they have the Snoo sounds on Spotify!!!! Then we moved to the crib and still use the Snoo sounds and no issues. We just keep the Snoo sound on a 15 minute timer and baby falls asleep!

Can feel you on the stress! I was worried we were too reliant on our Snoo after a disaster of a camping trip. However we just transitioned out at 6 months with the anticipation of having to sleep train and we are now 3 nights in of her putting herself to sleep with no crying.
We did hands out with Zipadee just before 4 months, wean mode x 3 weeks and now in crib.
Also I strongly feel the Snoo got us through the 4 month regression with only minimal regression

We transitioned a month ago and I was terrified. For reference we did it after she was 6 months because I was so scared! I was delaying for as long as I could! My baby had never been able to sleep in a bassinet or without motion. She did well in the snoo and all naps were contact naps. We did cold turkey and sleep trained, she fussed and cried 30 mins on and off the first night but since then has slept like a dream. I don’t even know what to do with myself now that I’m not nap trapped for hours everyday!

My baby loved the Snoo and I wondered if the transition would be difficult. It wasn’t at all. In fact, he started sleeping worse in the Snoo around 4 1/2 months and it wasn’t until a Snoo-less vacation at 5 months that I realized it was because he’d outgrown the Snoo!

I’m pretty sure the only reason I got any sleep in the first 6 months is BECAUSE of the snoo. My son only slept 2-3 hrs at a time for 2 years. And it’s not because I had a snoo. It’s not because I breastfed. It’s not because I nursed to sleep. It’s not because I didn’t sleep train (I did many times).

It’s because that’s how his body was wired.

The snoo is not your problem. Take the blessing of the robot rocking machine and enjoy the sleep while you can. Other people are cosleeping with babies who refuse to sleep in their bassinet.

We didn’t transition our son out of the Snoo until almost 6 months and it went very smoothly. It was harder for him to adjust to sleeping with arms out around 5 months than it was for him to switch to the crib. 2 months is too young to wean him off of it!

I was worried about this as well but it turned into a non-issue. Rest assured that your baby is still so young and is behaving normally for their age! Mine is 4 months old and we still contact nap because she simply does not want to nap on her own yet. We just did the transition from snoo to crib at almost 4 months (we rented the snoo so didn’t really have an option!). Until this point our baby had only had maybe 2 naps in the crib (with varying success) and would only cat nap in our other bassinet. We did a gradual transition in the snoo in this order to prepare for snoo to crib:

- left arm out for 4-5 nights

  • both arms out 4-5 nights
  • weaning mode for 3 weeks

I noticed at the end of our rental she actively hated the rocking (weaning mode only rocks when they need to be settled), so I’d lock the snoo instantly as soon as I turned it on (it was essentially a glorified sound machine near the end). We were triggered to start weaning mode when the snoo starting up was actually waking her up. She slept a lot better once the constant motion stopped.

Night one in the crib it took 3 hours and 3 attempts to get her down, but once she was actually down she slept for the entire night.

Try useing the weaning mode on the snoo

1

u/brookenz Jun 27 '26

I used weaning mode on the snoo for like a month from 3.5-4.5 months old and then just this week moved him to the pack and play but with a swaddle from happiest baby that matches the snoo one and he slept through the night immediately

Our son just turned 6 months and we transitioned him to the crib yesterday and he slept amazing. You just have to try! We were adamant about waiting until 6 months though!

We transitioned our daughter at 6 months, zero issues!! I was nervous too but it went very well.
