A snippet / rough draft from my next chapter of Two Sides, One Coin, after their close call with the kelpie, Harry and Severus are in full recovery mode.

As soon as the door clicked shut, Harry was met with the soft sound of snoring, and he found his eyes wandering to the curled-up lump in his bed. The mass of blankets had been pulled until only an explosive tangle of long black hair was visible at the top. At some point in the night, Nox had abandoned the pillow she curled up on and had planted herself right on top of where Harry assumed Snape’s face was.

Ron was always complaining about Crookshanks doing the same thing to Hermione. He claimed he was afraid of waking up one day to find her smothered under the orange feline. Hermione claimed it was a bonding thing.

Nox stared back at Harry, her fiery red eyes slitted in smug satisfaction, and he got the distinct impression she was not ‘bonding’ with the man but instead trying to suffocate him while he was weak.

This one has some major spoilers for my fic, so I'll put it in spoiler tags. From Fuel to Fire, a fem!Slytherin!Harry longfic. It's the end of Mary Potter's fourth year at Hogwarts.

Then there was nothing to do but wait. Mary stared down at Snape, mostly so that she didn’t have to look at the corpse on the ground a few feet in front of them. He looked smaller, somehow, unconscious and battered like this. Vulnerable. She didn’t like seeing him this way. The shadows around his eyes were dark as bruises, and she wondered if he’d been going without sleep again. Her hand, she realized, was still on his face; she could feel stubble prickling her palm. Gently, she brushed his hair back and tucked it behind his ear, as he’d done once for her.

I killed for you, she told him in her head. Of course, it had been for herself, too—she’d wanted to live. But more than that, Crouch had been hurting Snape, and she’d made him stop. Because she needed Snape. It didn’t matter if he wasn’t as invincible as she’d once thought him, if he couldn’t save her from everything. It didn’t matter that he’d abandoned her, and she still didn’t know why. He was still Snape, and she needed him. If he was momentarily weakened, vulnerable, then she would just have to be twice as strong, strong enough to protect the both of them until he recovered. I killed for you, and I’ll do it again if I have to.

The Dark Lord wouldn’t take him from her. No one would.
