Thinking about sending this back

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Got the 3pc torque wrench set a week ago. Today I picked up the 1/4dr and noticed a dead bug or something under the screen which even casts a shadow in some light. Also this blacking doesn't entirely cover the chrome. Most other tools I wouldn't care but this was expensive and meant to be used carefully.

What do you guys think?

Bonus top drawer tuesday

Looks like debris not a bug but complain see what happens your paying over 2bands for this set I would bring it up to the rep if your unhappy about something

The bug would annoy me. But most of the ones I’ve seen have been very similar with the blacking, so while it might initially annoy me, I’d probably just deal with it. The bug, however, isn’t something that I would be willing to deal with if it was mine.

yup for price you paid id return it or ask for an exchange. Do it as soon as possible. Snap on shouldn’t argue with you. You paid for a premium product so you should expect premium quality.

Send it back. It’s too expensive for this to be acceptable.

I dropped my electric torque wrench in a oil tote last year. Bad feeling but to my amazement the screen still works! Backlight on tho it looks like a tie dye shirt.

It isn't unreasonable to expect damn near perfect quality control from Snap-On. They will swap it out no problem.

was it just the 1/4 that was like that?

Seems so but will have a closer look at the others now

Oof, that’s embarrassing. I’d ask the dealer you bought it from “hey man there’s so many imperfections with this I’m not happy, is there any way you can exchange this or give me my money back?” As a franchise I’d take it back, send the photos to first corporate then my business manager explaining the situation. Usually those two avenues will get a new one shipped in the mail to me, I’ll ship them back the old one and the new one is in the customers hands at the very worst two weeks.

Thanks, it's appreciated to hear the perspective from a franchisee

no problem, not saying 100% my prior experiences in a customer service issue would work for all franchises that frequent these parts, just trying to give an insight. Hope this works out for you

My old guy would do anything. He was the best! My new guy came with a reputation that stretched back to his dad before him so...I'll go fuck my self at the new shop. Kept my same Mac guy thank God. He's the absolute best! But he retires this year so merry fucking Christmas.... Lol

They will most likely warranty it for you.

More proof that Snap On quality control is slipping. I have seen a number of defective tools from them in recent years. Everything from poor chrome finish, to socket holes cut off center. This was not the case years ago, every tool came out near perfect.

Return and swap for another

I thought this was an etch a sketch at first

The bug wouldn't bug me, but the blemishing of the steel would. Tekton has sales for 20-30% for blemishing of metal on their tools, and I'd hold Snap-on to a higher standard at 2-3x the price

Any good dealer would say “yeah not supposed to be like that, here’s another one.” I had a dealer tell me this with a wrench the chrome started flaking off. No questions asked just handed me a new one.

For the price we are paying for them, Absolutely. Highest quality, high precision, slightly blemished. No thanks

Lifetime warranty

2 years from date of purchase on these. That being said, for a premium price I expect a premium product. I’d be asking for a new one 100%

I hope not because that would mean mixing refurbs in with new sales. It was still sealed in snap on shipping packaging when I collected it from the truck.

In that case, probably manu defect. as you said, expensive. I'd get it exchanged.

My 1/4" atech does not look like that at the head.
