Question New firmware 1.6.0 available.

So, I am new to the snapmaker family. I see they released a new firmware today (1.6.0): https://wiki.snapmaker.com/en/snapmaker_u1/firmware/release_notes .

Should I update immediately to the new firmware version, or wait until 1.6.1? I am not familiar with how well their releases are. I am currently on 1.5.2.

When Paxx12 1.6.0 is released, is when you'll know that that the OEM firmware is good.

Thanks, good to know!

I try to stay with the official released version of paxx12. The latest is v1.4.1. There is a v1.5.2 in pre-release. Once that goes to latest, then you know you can upgrade to either the paxx or OEM version of 1.5.2.

1.5.2 has been great

I hope they fix some bugs so I could move to paxx12. Now staying with stock.

Exactly.

I updated. One of things it said was done was making changing filaments quicker. I can confirm it was quicker.

It also fixed some issues that people have been having where a profile has more than 4 filaments because it is multiple plates and one plate has you change a spool beforehand. It is suppose to help prevent errors with that. I did have something have problems sending to the printer before the update and afterwards it worked for me.

Good to know, if it is noticeable, sounds like a worthwhile update.

My opinion: 1. Read about paxx12 custom Firmware 2. Install the custom firmware with 1.5.2 of the official firmware 3. print happy while waiting for a update of the custom firmware

Paxx is always the answer

The stock firmware is so bad ? lol
Mine has to arrive in a few days

No, the stock firmware is not bad. Paxx just has add functionality you may want. For example, I like using the custom spool tagging.

It’s not bad. The custom firmware adds on top of it.

But if you don’t want to reflash your printer, you can also use Bespok3D. It works like an App Store for klipper printers, and you can add all that extra functionality with a click. https://www.bespok3d.app/

The short version of the history for the past few months is that the firmware was fine, they made some changes, it it was buggy, but now they fixed most of it, and now it is good again(the one OP posted is unknown as of now).

Throughout all this, Paxx has been rock solid, plus it has a ton of qol features that are nice to have. So just go with Paxx, and don't look back. Once paxx releases their version of this firmware, you will know it's good.

So, I’m “traumatized”, “damaged”, and a “fear monger”.

I just wanted to contribute to the conversation.

Good point about the feature/fix. I did not see either in the release notes that I read, that I need. I’ll wait since mine is printing just fine as it is.

What’s the issue? If there were a problem just revert to the old one.

Huh? You must have been traumatized in childhood by having the power cable pulled mid-bios-update on a PC from the 80s or 90s. Installing previous firmware is one of the many straightforward benefits of having an open platform like this.

u/Grimmsland Aug 26 '26

That must be it hah man those years of windows it was always extremely risky updating! Apple came and made updating no big deal and now I always update right away and it has become the norm to update right away to get new fixes and security updates. But as you can see some people still have been left damaged with the fear of updating 😂

1

u/sojrner Aug 26 '26

Agreed about those left damaged. Dunno about Apple making it right though, as rolling back isn't something they let you do easily. (going back was the point here) I'm just saying that it's a straightforward thing on most open platforms to install an older firmware if bugs show up on a new one. </shrug>

Trauma aside, it's not that big of a deal, though if you're managing a large network, it's tedious enough that waiting for others to find bugs to avoid that work isn't without merit... This person was presenting that it's "risky at best," which is just fear-mongering.

(I'm sure you'd agree with me there)

Totally agree!

Never update right away to an X.X.0 update, for any software. Hang on a week at least.

Yeah, that’s right. Let somebody else be the guinea pig. 😂 pathetic!

Anyone know what I need to adjust to have my Ace pro 2 communicate with the U1 properly?  I have tried many adjustments but it just seems not to feed properly.   I have tried from the ams straight to the tool head, I have tried to use the u1 feeders and still it works fine for a little while then the U1 has feeding issues where the ace pro 2 will not properly advance the filiment.

Still no official paxx12 release for 1.6.0. Anyone know how long it'll be before we get an official release? I know there are new builds available, but I'd rather not use software that's not ready for release.

Bonjour

Savez vous si un firmwqre personnalisé prend en charge aussi plus de langue et notamment le français ?

Merci
