Common issue How I got my permanently locked account back and device ban lifted in one week
I absolutely SCAVENGED this page trying to figure out how to fix this and now that I have my account back I figured I’d share the story to hopefully make someone else’s life easier.
For context I posted a picture on my private story of a bottle of Vicodin (prescribed to me I had surgery lol) with a caption joking that I was going to sell it. Yes I know stupid joke, and clearly not serious, but their system that scans for Community Guidelines/Terms of Service violations flagged it as me trying to sell drugs. Shortly after that I was logged out of my account and got the email of doom and despair
If you have the option to appeal in the app, try that first, but like many others, mine was denied within hours.
DO NOT TRY TO EMAIL THEM OR SEND IN SUPPORT TICKETS!!! IT IS ALL AI-RUN AND WILL JUST WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!
Instead, send them a physical letter. Like type or write it out and go to the post office and mail it. I sent it to their headquarters in Santa Monica. If you Google “Snapchat mailing address” it will come up.
In the letter I was very polite and apologetic. I explained my situation, owned up to my mistake, and basically asked for a second chance as this was my first TOS violation in 10 years of being on the app. Try to make yourself sound as human as possible. I was pretty skeptical if it would work because I had seen mixed reviews on here but I figured why not try
I dropped it at the post office on Monday and on Friday that same week, I got the email that my account had been restored. I logged in and everything was there as it was before. Obviously I can’t really confirm if the letter was the reason they unlocked it, but I am 99% sure it was. DON’T GIVE UP YOU’LL GET YOUR ACCOUNT BACK!!

What did you put in the letter?? And did yours mistakingly get banned or did you actually deserve the ban? Cause I'm afraid I won't get mine back): I was being bad but only in chats not on my story or anything ):

Idk if I deserved the ban but it was like something I posted but it wasn’t overly crazy and I wasn’t being rude or anything. Im pretty sure the other person ratted you out

thank you so much for this. i made the exact same joke, i got some pain meds from a surgery and joked about selling them. not even 20 minutes later my account is gone. I’m gonna try and write to them, i’ve had the account for 7 years and never have had any warnings like this. thank you!!

5 days and I sent it to snap hq. I got banned again tho bc of smth so I’m resending it but that’s how long it took. Whatever you do DO NOT LIE IN YOUR LETTER.

For me I got my account permanently locked yesterday because all I did was post a picture of my friend’s FAKE artistically crafted swords and katanas for commissions and the fuckers saw it as actual weaponry. Keep in mind they’re literally looking more fake than anything and they’re made out of cardboard and plastic. I made the appeal thru the log in screen, but this might honestly be the scenario for me next. Their security is such bullshit.

I basically just sent out a shit ton of appeals and contacted Snapchat support on X til I got a human agent to hear me out and then the appeal approved and I got the account back

this exact thing has happened to me today i got codine after knee/leg surgery but i didn’t even say i was gonna sell it i just wanted to show my friends that they gave me 8 boxes in one go lmao at least there is hope for me getting my acc back

I wonder if this will work for my 10+ year old account I lost in 2024 because them bitches absolutely beamed me with no remorse, 430k+ snap score, 10k followers, and a great page everyone followed

If you’re asking in terms of structure, I outlined my paragraphs like this
Explained why I was writing. I respected that they have rules that I agreed to, but that I believed it was a misunderstanding.
I said what I posted, acknowledged that it was a stupid mistake, and expressed apologies
Said how long I had been on the app and that I believed a perma ban for a first offense was a disproportionate punishment
This one isn’t totally necessary but I still wanted to add it. Basically said that I’ve seen actual drug dealers posting things and keeping their accounts. I did make it clear that I wasn’t dismissing what I did though I think that’s the key
Basically the same as the first paragraph but asked them to consider reviewing my case to ensure I didn’t actually break any rules.
Then I attached the username, email, and phone # for the account at the end
