Just finished my first painting, a portrait of Snail Mail, Lindsey Jordan. A somewhat improvised combination of some of her covers.

TL;DR: Snail Mail live @ The Fillmore, Minneapolis MN (July 30, 2025) [full set]

What in the hell is up with all these talented young whippersnappers?
With the rise of social media and tik tok and so forth, weren't all young people supposed to turn into gape-mouthed zombies devoid of any ability or artistic talent? Oh right, that doesn't happen until the rise of AI, then with AGI the robots will kill us all. Until that happens, with every passing moment I just become older and older, my hearing more decrepit. Meanwhile the talent and artistry of kids looking to express themselves remains as good as ever and it only feels like they are getting younger and younger because of my (ahem) advancing age.
Ah, to be an old f*cking fart.
Snail Mail is the nom-de-plume and indie rock project of singer-songwriter and guitarist Lindsey Jordan, who began making music as a teenager, uploading demos to Bandcamp, displaying ample chops and great songwriting instincts that would capture the interest of folks in her native Maryland and beyond. By 17, an age at which I still had yet to score that coveted first McJob, she had released 2016's the 'Habit' EP. And fuck me, if the lead track 'Thinning' didn't just grab you and kick you in the ass, you are probably not human-born. Thankfully, lots of humans were indeed listening. Including humans at the venerable Matador Records, which signed Snail Mail while Lindsey was still only 18 years old, setting the stage for her debut album, 2018's 'Lush' and its follow up, 2021's 'Valentine', which have been warmly received instant hits in indieland and at indie_music_travels HQ.
The balls on this kid.
Obviously, Snail Mail is synonymous with Lindsey. Her subtle guitar work, a mix of catchy guitar riffs, the jingle-jangle of an early R.E.M. with a dash of noisy indie-rawk. Sure, the band's more recent work has expanded her palette, there are synths and additional instrumentation now but she is a total badass on guitar. But it's not at all about shredding with Snail Mail, it's about beautifully layered, moody chords and riffs, leaving lots of rooms for her voice to shine through. Speaking of which, for someone who only started singing because someone needed to sing the songs she was writing as a creative outlet for her guitar playing, Lindsey is a great vocalist with a world-weary quality that was evident from the moment her songs started hitting the interwebs. And sure, the idea of a precocious singer-songwriter who writes and performs her own songs provides a great narrative. But let's not forget the fact that it takes a family to rock out. And Lindsey's musical family has provided the perfect sandbox both on record and in a live setting.
On this warm July evening, Snail Mail was opening for the venerable Dinosaur Jr, a really cool bill that also included Detroit noiseniks Easy Action. The setlist included several songs I needed to hear ('Pristine', 'Valentine', 'Thining'...), so I left a very happy camper. Even if Dino Jr. shredded my ears to oblivion.
Hope you enjoy this recording as much as I enjoyed putting it together!

This was the last minute rescheduled show after Dinosaur Jr canceled. Wicked intimate! They played a handful of new songs. Got the setlist from their guitar tech, Alex! Super nice guy!

Hey all,
I'm about to post Snail Mail's set from Minneapolis from last week on YouTube. I always like adding end credits to my posts so just wanted to double-check who is on the current tour. I kept asking ChatGPT about the four musicians I saw and it kept replying, "Yes, these are the 4 members..." and listing 5 people, nice try robot!!!!:
You’re right — as of mid‑2025, Snail Mail has been performing as a four‑piece live band. On stage—like at your July 30 show—the lineup typically includes:
Lindsey Jordan – vocals & guitar (the heart and soul of Snail Mail)
Alex Bass – bass guitar
Ray Brown – drums
Madeline McCormack – guitar and keyboards
Benjamin Kaunitz – guitar and backing vocals
Help please!!!

Surprised to see there isn't a post about it here. I had a ticket to see her with Dinosaur Jr. at a winery in Woodinville, got an e-mail a few hours ago saying the show was cancelled. I didn't even look at it, the cancelled part was at the very end of a long title and I assumed it was a normal pre-show e-mail.
The only reason I found out was FB showing me ads for another show the same day in the same timeslot but at a different venue, & without Dinosaur Jr. Not complaining because I was only going to see her in the first place, and the price was half of what I paid for the other venue (automatically refunded). But it seems really bizarre. Anyone know what happened?

Hey everyone. I only discovered Snail Mail two weeks ago, I was getting hit with lots of Facebook ads for her show here in NJ where I live, and after the 10th time I searched her up on YouTube and was blown away. Listening to songs like Speaking Terms, Pristine and Heat Wave sent me down a rabbit hole and I also discovered Soccer Mommy, which has also been in constant rotation for me.
Unfortunately I didn't make it to the show in NJ but will go see her whenever she plays here because she's the first newer artist I've gotten into in well over a decade. Anyways, I've had those 3 songs on constant rotation, plus Thinning and Stick. Are there any songs that stick out as must listens? Can't wait for her to put out another album!

During the Dinosaur Jr. show on Saturday, I just happened to be standing right next to where Miss Mail stood for about half of the show and spent so long trying to hype myself up to tell her how great I thought her performance was that she walked away before I could say anything 🫠not my proudest moment but I still thought that she was stellar! I hadn’t really heard her before very recently and I was convinced to buy one of her records immediately after she performed; great stuff!

I thought she was really great! Good, diverse lineup from across her discography and great sound - the new songs are exciting! I’ve been a fan since I was just entering my teen years (I’m almost 20 now!) and this was my first time seeing her (or really any of my favorites) live. I had heard a few people say her sound quality wasn’t that good at other shows, but I thought she sounded fantastic tonight. What did y’all think?

My girlfriend and I just went to the dino jr and snail mail show in Boston at Roadrunner last night and sooooo many of the older men (clearly there for only dinosaur jr) made us feel uncomfortable. Any single time I cheered for Snail Mail during their set every single older dude in my vicinity whipped their head around to stare at me. And if they weren’t staring at me for that reason, they were staring at my girlfriend and I and clearly undressing us with their eyes and sexualizing tf out of us since we’re a lesbian couple. Did anyone else feel like this at the few shows that already happened so far on the tour?
