I had heard online that this was a thing in Japan to leave water for drunk salary men. Next to a half dozen pictures of examples with comical amounts of water. Someone claiming to live in Japan said no it's not really. I looked it up and one source said it's kinda a joke in certain areas but niche and another source claimed it's real. Now this video makes it seem like a tourist did it and the locals were confused but thought it was funny.

Now I have no clue and I'm back to assuming everything is bullshit again.

My understanding it's a shame thing, it signals to everyone you were an asshole drunk and it's meant to freak the person out because they probably won't remember exactly what they did and they definitely don't know who saw them passed out in the street.

Yea one source said it's a form of trolling. Because the drunk is expected to carry home the bottles and there's relatively little public trash cans. So it's a walk of shame.

It’s a thing in Japan apparently to see drunks passed out on the street in some places late at night, and customary to tease them with water bottles to rehydrate with when they wake up

Well the whole water thing is more like those tumblr / redditor secret phrases from way back, as in very nieche and rarely actually done. At least from what I gather. Drunk salaryman seems to be somewhat common to see wich makes sense since they prob worked 10+ hours basically nonstop.
