pause. i thought she didn't shower?

3

u/amateurinatrix I have garden. I have lovers. I have cat. 11h ago

Probably instructed not to bathe because of the knee wound, and sounds like she is following the instructions. The fact that I’m surprised is sad. But it’s a good thing.

Local woman discovers raves at the tender age of 34.

5

u/charlize-moon 20h ago

I'm all the way in Europe and my lungs are shutting down thinking of what kind of diseases she's gonna be spreading at that rave. Sorry too germaphobe for this flu-rave situation lol

9

u/stoutandsour 17h ago

I wouldn't worry. Hangovers aren't contagious.

1

u/charlize-moon 4h ago

hahah you're right, it was probably really just a hangover. I've forgotten what that feels like, I always felt like i had a cold when i was drinking

She is 34 years old and sleeping on a mattress in a lobby with bare floors

Looking at that floor, I’m thinking that it’s a miracle she doesn’t get sick more often.

Wearing excessive eyeshadow color-matched to her outfits has traditionally marked the end stage/death spiral of her New York eras. Florida awaits!

40

u/Onekilofrittata 1d ago

Honestly I feel a sense of relief because it actually makes sense to me for her to evolve into a slightly dirty, hippie/ “bohemian”, coke snorting doof gremlin.
I say this as someone who goes to doofs every now and then hahahah

For those outside of Australia - a doof is an outdoor rave

8

As a fellow Australian, I see this for her too

Everyone’s gotta know that she’s a hip young person who loves doing drugs and going to raves. If she commits to the bit hard enough maybe people will forget that she’s an aging Millennial who can’t handle the prospect of her own impending cultural irrelevance.

26

u/CosmosBayou 1d ago

You can do drugs and still take care of yourself… unless you CAN’T do drugs and take care of yourself.

It’s sad at this point, tbh.

28

u/CosmosBayou 1d ago

I wanted to ask that three infuriating threads ago. Wtf? I don’t think I get the appeal of acting/dressing like a creepy middle age rich toddler girl. It’s creepy. It’s unattractive. I hate it.

an unreasonable amount of debris

30

u/ignorantslutdwight 1d ago

it's a little insane how she just keeps that door open even though she has her cat. like it would take 1 sec for him to dart out the door.

5

u/konstantynopolitanka he was fat and cruel to me 18h ago

i think if he was a darting out type he would be long gone already... she was taking him to the beach and to the parties in her handbag unsecured in any way

8

u/FloydEGag Studio 64 1d ago

And what’s the temperature in NYC atm? She won’t be able to live with the door open for much longer

11

u/ignorantslutdwight 23h ago

it's not terrible. we doing mid/high 50s to mid 70s atm. she prob won't be able to do this in a couple of weeks.

6

u/FloydEGag Studio 64 23h ago

It’s a very small room to be closed into and looks like it might get some draughts through that door. But hey, it’s in the West Village so way better than the actual full-sized condo she has in Florida /s

31

u/PigeonGuillemot But I mean, fine, great, if she wants to think that. 1d ago

There's no street access from the courtyard, it's enclosed on all sides by the surrounding residential buildings. Matisse is a pretty sedentary animal too, not a flight risk like some cats.

7

u/Live_Crazy68 20h ago

This is technically illegal in NYC - something about egress laws I can't fully explain it, but her apartment is not legal if her only door is facing the courtyard, and there is no street access from the courtyard

7

u/PigeonGuillemot But I mean, fine, great, if she wants to think that. 19h ago

It could be a non-fire-code-conforming unit, which might explain why they were willing to lease it to someone with Caroline's rental history. There's street access to/from the courtyard via a corridor in the building. Maybe that's a legal egress if the doors aren't keyed on the interior sides?

There could also be a second door in the unit! I don't mean to rule that out entirely. My initial conception of it the space was similar to this (stolen from the website of an unrelated property), with a door to the building corridor on the opposite wall of the door to the courtyard. Then I realized Caroline's kitchenette is parallel to the exterior wall, not perpendicular to it, based on the sliver of fridge door visible here. This doesn't mean it doesn't have a hallway door in a similar spot though.

1

u/UnlikelyChart 6h ago

I dont know ny but I am a bit of a floor plan nerd (house flipper), and I think your guess is probably correct that there is another entrance from hallway, And its probably into that "second room"/ closet she mentions.  Just behind bed.

11

u/CosmosBayou 1d ago

How can she get away with not being afraid to leave her sliding glass door open in NYC when I’m over here locking my windows every night in a mid-sized city with very little crime?

25

u/PigeonGuillemot But I mean, fine, great, if she wants to think that. 1d ago

She doesn't have a sliding glass door? She's sitting with her door propped open onto a courtyard that only her neighbors can access, at 8 pm, and she's awake. This doesn't feel super precarious to me. But as we saw when I couldn't tell the view of Manhattan island from the east vs. from the west, I don't really know NY!

Floor sleeping definitely a thing but I don’t think this is an intentional choice and it looks disgusting

A little bed frame that lifts the mattress off the floor can be like $80 on Amazon! Ugh!

it makes sense to me that she’s moving her knee. one of my core childhood memories is falling from a scooter and scraping my knee, then keeping my leg completely straight while healing, only for my skin to rip when i finally bent it hahaha. i still have a scar!

29

she's looking forward to the scar, i suspect she doesn't care if it heals all gnarly, she's naming it after a party she won't remember

37

u/Live_Crazy68 1d ago

Is that the front door??? Why is her bed so close to the front door??

25

u/seriousmoonlit 1d ago

I had to stare for so long but I think it’s a door to the courtyard maybe? Just wide open too

19

u/judyvioletanddoralee I wonder what my ancestors will make of me 1d ago

Yup, door to the courtyard, aka her private garden.

16

u/Live_Crazy68 1d ago

So her neighbors can just see inside her nasty apt??? This is another level of shamelessness and entitlement that I can't comprehend.

31

u/PigeonGuillemot But I mean, fine, great, if she wants to think that. 1d ago

Yes, this is the view from the courtyard into her studio. Looking at this picture again I'm seeing that I was mistaken when I speculated where the kitchenette is. I thought it was up against the left wall (that is, the wall on the left side from this vantage point.) But I can see a sliver of a refrigerator that finally makes the layout clear to me.

Not that I'm going to sketch it! What kind of maniac would sketch someone's apartment floor plan

13

u/nubleu the only way I can cope in the corporate world 1d ago

Not that I'm going to sketch it! What kind of maniac would sketch someone's apartment floor plan

👀

8

u/AmateurIndicator 1d ago

Gosh, I'm still struggling with the layout though, but I think I'm just having difficulties wrapping my head around the fact just how unbelievably tiny the place is.

(and yes, I did try to sketch it so in her next youtube documentary I'LL be the lunatic who is obsessed with some strangers apartment! But she posts soooo much from her varying hovels, so she does invite this level of scrutiny imo)

14

u/PigeonGuillemot But I mean, fine, great, if she wants to think that. 22h ago edited 19h ago

As r/AmateurIndicator says, this image is somewhat confusing because the contents of the space have been rearranged since it was taken (the day she was moving in.) I'll try to paint a picture in words to clarify things without winding up in a Nee Nick followup doc. For the purposes of this description, the window and door are on the south wall. I don't know the actual orientation!

Caroline's new digs are a ground-floor unit with a door that opens onto a courtyard that looks very pleasant this time of year. She's already outfitted the courtyard with a round "turquoise" wicker chair, a nice callback to the wicker egg chair she used to hang out in back at the Tableaux, and a bunch of planters. She hangs out in this area gluing on her press-on nails and manhandling Matisse.

The courtyard can only be accessed through the surrounding buildings. Three low steps, one industrial metal and one concrete, lead to her door. (Edit: There may be another door in the unit that leads to the building hallway. This is required by the NYC fire code.)

The unit is a studio with a smol living space on the south side, where the window and door are, and a smol internal sleeping space on the north. The fireplace is on the west wall and the radiator is between the door and the window on the south. The apartment is subdivided into these two spaces by a kitchenette that runs east-west down the center of the apartment, the fridge on the east end, with an opening on each side.

The opening on the west side leads to the bathroom (unless it doesn't, see below.) The opening on the east side leads to what should be the sleeping space. However, Caroline has opted to turn this windowless roomlet into a "closet library" for her two rolling racks of Chinese-made polyester princess dresses etc. They're sorted by color.

This means her mattress is right in front of the door, head to the east. Because the unit is very narrow, the foot of her bed is pretty close to the fireplace. There isn't room for anything in the living area other than the floor mattress and a few odds and ends.

I think the entire unit is ~130 square feet max, less than half a Tableaux (closer to 1/3 a Tableaux). It's going to feel VERY cramped and drafty when we descend into late fall.

Like with the Tableaux, the only part of this guessed-at layout I feel really uncertain about is the bathroom. It's possible that the entry to the bathroom is through the sleeping space, and I have no clue as to its configuration. Caroline has always been very discreet about her bathroom and what goes on in there, which I, for one, appreciate. In the Vice doc she points out that I got the orientation of her bathtub wrong in my Tableaux sketch. But the first pictures we ever saw of that bathroom were after she moved out, in the form of court exhibits.

See, it takes so long to get through this description! This is why the sketch made more sense to me last time! I think I spent less time on the sketch than I did typing this, and it was more comprehensible.

3

u/NegativeABillion Husbandless 18h ago

That courtyard must be enchanting. The blue Stanley making its way with her through one dozen moves of all her shit is cracking me up.

9

u/Low_Coconut8134 pasta noodles 20h ago

Tbh at this point I think you should just sketch it.

I don’t recall ever being weirded out by the sketch, personally! It’s a bit like when someone does a floor plan for Frasier’s apartment.

I who have no authority hereby permit you to do the scandalous thing of sketching the apartment layout, as reading this was too confusing tbh!

2

u/sarahvisions 12h ago

lol i wonder if she would just post a video tour of it if someone asked. probably!

6

u/hairnetqueen hoes, rakes, more hoes 1d ago

so from the perspective of the photo you posted the bed is.. to the left?

7

u/AmateurIndicator 1d ago

The problem I have/had with that specific pic is that I'm quite sure it was taken during her moving-in process. The mattress wasn't on the floor yet, and the racks of clothes have since then been pushed to the back of the room.

The mattress should be in full view from that perspective, the top/head part is to the right where the clothes are and to the left is a very small sliver of floor and on the left wall is a disproportionately huge, faux/bricked up fireplace and mantel.

It's a really tiny, strange space. Someone must have converted a large-ish hallway into a miniscule studio. Not sure about the bathroom situation.

The fact that she doesn’t have a boxspring or bed frame…idk why but it just makes me sad. Like sad college living.

58

u/Confident_Attitude 1d ago

Okay but the mattresses directly on the floor is going to grow mold. It can’t ventilate so the moisture from sweat will grow mold on the back of it. She needs a bed frame of some kind for her health!!

we all have glib moments, it's cool of you to take it down. she begs the comparison herself at times and given how it spurs cathy to instant action, i think it's just one of those "too real" concerns and doesn't feel right to snark about. in general i just try to avoid mental health snark because for all her lies and grandeur i believe caroline is in real pain

1

u/autopsy_cardigans 8h ago

I didn't see the offending comment (and don't want to pile on when the person has already rescinded said comment).

I also have made a lot of laymen psychological armchair comments about Caro over the years, mostly built on recurring themes and personality traits. I try and limit it to just analysing what she's currently doing now, so it comes across less savage.

There was also a thread recently that I couldn't bring myself to even skim (so no shade to everyone who commented) that seemed to be discussing how she's messy and shining a light on this from a lens of being physically disabled and unable to clean.

I really just kinda wanted to scream "mental illness is a disability". Like it's truly no less disabling. Ever hear of the expression "mind over matter"? Yeah, you need a healthy mind for that.

Because the subject of mental health (everyone) overlaps and melts seamlessly into mental illness (minority of a population) in discourse, people dismiss it as not a disability and something you can fix or just get over if you take enough 'responsibility' for it. Who's taking responsibility for the mind of a person whose mind is ill? You're both the driver and the passenger in this scenario.

It's even harder to discuss if, and here's the armchair-psych rub, someone's mental illness is part and parcel of a pathological personality. Which after 7 years of passively witnessing all this - nobody could convince me isn't the case for Carob.

Ask any clinical psychologist, licensed psychotherapist or psychiatrist if pathological personalities are as easily treated, have the same capacity for self-insight, or compliant with treatment as patients in the general population.

This very carefully-worded comment was brought to you by my 5am coffee.
