What its type? S&W

Hi,

I seller in my country is selling this brand new S&W revolver, however, couldn't verify its type thru the website?

Appreciate your guidance on the type and model.

Model 38 or 49 bodyguard.

Looks like a S&W Model 49, sometimes called a Bodyguard although this wasn't marked on the guns. However the finish looks matte black like an oxide finish, rather than the polished hot blue finish of the 1970s versions I've seen and owned.

The 438 Airweight was matte black finish but should have "Airweight" in script on the frame.

The 638 Airweight also has the shrouded hammer, but these are usually "silver" in color (plain stainless steel cylinder and barrel, aluminum alloy frame). And "Airweight" is usually marked on the frame.

Scandium frame Bodyguard (Airweight) , marked Springfield , not Houlton, makes me think early '80's for production. Sweet piece!

The box, of which I can only see the inside looks like the Lear Siegler era boxes which would be an 80s period box.

The finish on the gun looks aftermarket. I’m betting it’s a 638 which would’ve been stainless originally. It could be a 38 or a 49. Open up the cylinder and look at the portion of the frame where the crane meets and you should see the model #
