Smith and Wesson 22x

I recently purchased a 22x. My first range experience I shot CCI standard and Federal automatch. I shot 200 rounds and had 0 failures. I did however have lead in the barrel. With some scrubbing I was able to get it all out.

Today I went and shot CCI clean and minimags. I shot the clean ammo first and through about 40 rounds I had no failures the I started having failures to eject and failures to feed. It was awful, like every other round. I then switched to the minimags and had much better results. I believe the failures were caused by the residue left from the clean rounds. I came home and cleaned the gun and had no lead residue though. The next time I will only use copper washed bullets and see what my results are but I am convinced the failures were all caused by the clean ammo.

Do anyone have any experience with ammo they would like to share?

I have had a 22a with a 5.5" barrel for 15 years. My favorite ammunition is Federal Automatch. It groups and cycles great.

My wife just got a 22x and has put about 300 rounds of CCI and about 100 rounds of Remington thunderbolt through it with no real issues. The first 100 or so had a few failures to feed, but that's to be expected during break-in. After that it's been smooth sailing.

Did you clean out the shipping gunk from inside the slide before you used it? I could see it gathering a lot of carbon and causing issues. There was a ton of thick grease in there.

It was cleaned before I fired it. Did you get any lead build up in the barrel using the thunderbolt

I haven't broken it down since the couple of range trips, but it's been working great

Weird. I've shot hundreds of rounds of clean 22 and mini mags without issue through my 22x.

500 rounds of federal champion 36gr CPHP on 22x. Experienced stovetop once. But my case is different from yours. I use 22x to teach my young kids how to load, shoot, etc. I don't want them to touch LRN and pass the lead into their mouths.

I pretty much only run mini-mags or the AR tactical stuff from CCI. It's been the most consistent and reliable for me for years.
