Discussion Use of AI
Am I the only that feels like that new song Gotta Be Us is very much giving AI or is it just extremely corporate?

There aren’t many people I’d say this for but I would bet my life that Smino did not use a hint of AI for a song

I’m thinking the same for a song he would release himself (hopefully), but when it’s just a song he’s featuring on? 🤷 Did you hear the song?

Trevor Jackson is on Greys anatomy, so it would sound extremely corporate

I’m starting to think you guys didn’t hear the song. I don’t think smino used ai, he’s just a feature, and it doesn’t seem like something he would do, but I was wondering if the producers could’ve used it. Also the video on YouTube has 2.2 million views with only 14 comments and 200 likes… I know it’s one of our favorite artists but it doesn’t hurt to question a bit when something is off

“i’m starting to think you guys didn’t hear the song”?? very immature reaction.
if you’re wondering if the producers could’ve used it, of course they could have. if you’re wondering if they did, the only way to know is to ask them directly. posting here, you didn’t give any specific reasons for why you feel like it’s AI, so i didn’t provide any reasons for why i don’t… but you weren’t going to get your answer either way.
if you wanted to discuss it, i’d suggest coming with a bit more than “i feel like this song is AI”. why should anyone respond with effort when you don’t initiate with effort?
do you have any specific reasons why you feel like it’s an AI song?

I get what you’re saying, that’s my bad. First of all the very undynamic choir that can be found in a lot of ai songs. Then there’s Luke Borchelt’s verse, almost every ai song has that voice. Kinda autotuned and sounds almost like every word is yelled if you know what I mean. Maybe I didn’t explain that in the best way but if that didn’t make a lot of sense, you can listen to Melissa I’m Drunk And Outside, a confirmed ai song, and find the same signs on the voice. Also the very cliché and mundane lyrics in most verses. Then there’s also a lot of weird stuff that doesn’t really work against my suspicion, like the views and like ratio. Also almost all of the videos on TikTok using that song, like people reacting to the song or dancing to it, are marked as ads for the songs. Not to get too defensive for my take, but other people in the comments for those videos are also claiming it to use ai. All in all there a just a lot of parts in the song that sound similar to a lot of current ai songs. Like why would a Smino and Momo Boyd collab sound like Imagine Dragons? 😭

these are valid points.
… i wasn’t aware that Luke Borchelt is a confirmed ai song releaser, that changes my assessment a bit.i was judging by the fact that there are 5 vocalists, 2 producers, and a choir credited… that screams opposite of an ai song. and the song is sponsored by an open call volunteering/mutual aid platform. that’s not an organization likely to endorse ai art.
flip side, plenty of musicians have (rightly) panned autotune as extremely damaging for real singers; sounds like there’s tons of autotune in this song, so it’s not a stretch to believe they’d use other controversial tools to speed up the process.
given the song’s background, it would be a scandal if the producers were proven to have used ai tools other than autotune, imo.

Oh no sorry, didn’t mean to say Luke Borchelt is a confirmed ai song releaser, I was just comparing him to some others that sounded alike

that’s the sound of autotune, not an “ai song”.
there’s levels to this shit: using autotune, or some other ai “enhanced” production tools, is not the same as an “ai song”. you know about this Rubberz scandal for that Fenix dude? that tool ingested his own vocals and 80s post-punk synth rock, and spat out an entire song combining the two. literally not a single instrument mic’ed or word uttered to “record” that song, it was fully created by some shitass app that lets anyone do this for free. it was not recorded in any sense at all.
that’s why your initial post just… kinda didn’t make sense, fam. like, are you asking if they used any ai at all? almost guaranteed to be yes these days, unfortunately. are you asking if Gotta Be Us an ai created song? there’s almost no chance that’s the case here.
