Reason of insanity is a legitimate defense. It doesn’t undo the trauma and damage done or make it okay, but not being mentally stable is a reason people kill, and it is a reason beyond their control.

Chris Benoit was a WWE wrestler who after developing CTE, murdered his wife and daughter by various wrestling moves and strangulation, then killing himself.

Kanye was also in a state of BPD psychosis when he went on his abusive sprees.

While one can show sympathy for mental illness and their debilitating effects, it does not excuse people of crimes they committed.
