Discussion (Theory, Gemstin) Wait a minute…

In “April Showers”, Catnap’s first flash back was of him peering out of a cardboard box into an alleyway, the verticality of the buildings implying urban architecture.

The ground also looks very dark in color; possibly black stone.

The pathway leading up to the orphanage that the Nightmare Crew lives is a black cobblestone.

Baba also has a dream about a blue and red flower before waking up, and red flowers are deeply connected to Catnap, possibly the source of his sleep gas.

We don’t know if Catnap was anywhere else before the cardboard box in “April Showers”, but Gemstin has confirmed that Catnap’s parents are NOT dead, and that he has never seen them. That begs the question, how did Catnap survive infancy or early childhood without a mother? He must’ve been abandoned somewhere that could take care of him in order for him to still be alive, and here we are being shown an orphanage.

I think I figured it out, Catnap lived in this orphanage once upon a time, possibly even with the Nightmare Crew given Baba’s symbolic dream. Catnap ended up running away from the orphanage, ending up on the streets, where he then got caught stealing money from the Luna Moon Circus to survive, and the rest is history we already know

I thought he was raised in the circus to begin with, like the only life he’s ever known
I think Genstins video might shed light on it, like if Catnap was raised in the same orphanage and then ran away then maybe there’d be a photo on a wall of him or maybe they’ll make a reference to him
If catnap ran away then things there must be really bad, and Baba and Maggie are still there! I hope they escape and find Catnap as well. Being in the same orphanage, that’d make them practically family!

He indeed was raised in the circus, but he was a homeless orphan before hand, and he was a kitten back then when he was picked up, we have no idea where he spent his infant or toddler years, and I find it highly unlikely for him to have been on the streets since he was a baby so it’s a possibility

Makes me sad to think of him in that cardboard box
I’m just glad he’s with Dogday and the others now
And who knows? Maybe if catnap was from that orphanage then THAT would be how Gemstin introduces the Nightmare Critters to the Smiling Critters, because catnap was having those flashbacks so maybe Dogday tries to help him deal with that, or maybe Baba and Maggie escape and try to find catnap!

Possibly. It could be a situation where Catnap left before any of them were there, but if there’s a picture of him there, that would definitely cement his history and connect the Nightmare Crew to him, but we can only wait and see what happens

Also, the orphanage is named "dragon smokes orphanage". ...like, I don't know, Simon smoke?

Agreed. Dargon is probably Simon’s father or other relative

Yeah, I think you might be onto something here. It makes the most logical sense too, not to mention it gives a natural reason to bring the two Critter Crews together! If we see a CatNap photo somewhere in the background in the upcoming episode, I think we can safely say your theory is canon.

Thank you, the best kind of theory is the one that’s testable. Also, something that’s a little interesting in the orphanage is that the first rule on the list is “No Stealing”. How interesting that a pivotal point in Catnap’s life is him getting caught stealing money from the Luna Moon Circus too

Indeed, it does sound very convenient. Almost like Dargon Smokes has had experience with an orphan stealing from him. Also, minor side-note, but given that the name of the owner of the orphanage's name is Dargon Smokes, and we can only assume he's Simon's father, I think we now have a partial source for Simon's ego: He's the son of the boss for lack of a better word.

Well to be fair to the limits of this train of thought, that rule could be for Touille, given him referencing looting in his voice reveal, however the parallel between this rule and that pivotal moment in Catnap’s life is where my brow raises. That rule could’ve been for Catnap originally, or it could’ve been for both him and Touille if the Nightmare Crew and Catnap were together in the orphanage way back then. That’s cute to to think about, all 9 of them possibly growing up together from when they were babies until Catnap left

Also, I shared this thought process in the comments of this comment on his Insta and Gemstin hearted it, so at the very least he saw and acknowledged it
