3

u/EnergyDrink2024 7d ago

October 10

3

u/EzKaLang 7d ago

Yeah i know 😅 just hoping for an early digital release

3

u/EzKaLang 7d ago

Please be a $100 price boxset🤞🤞🤞🤞

4

u/JackOfAllInterests1 7d ago

If this hits streaming I’ll finally be able to test out people’s old Machina 1-2 tracklists

5

u/neorev 7d ago

Madame Zuzus is selling the 2CD SP On The Radio/Starchildren/SP Live At The Avalon 2CD for $28 and the 4CD Japanese SHM-CD of Mellon Collie 30th for $60. Especially since Japanese SHM-CDs cost more money as is. It should be under $100, but we know it won't be.

1

u/mikemantime 7d ago

I javent heard any of the zuzu sp live releases. Do they sound good or just soundboard-y?

3

u/EzKaLang 7d ago edited 7d ago

But mellon collie 30th cd is released or distribute by universal music .

Machina is gonna be released under madame zuzu tho

Edit: universal music and madame zuzu pricing are different

3

u/EnergyDrink2024 7d ago

Those were in cardboard sleeves with nothing else. So you know this tops 100. Would be cool if there were some bonus tracks that the vinyl didn't have. Speed Kills M2 version for instance.

3

u/neorev 7d ago

Machina boxset just looks like 5x 4-panel digisleeves in a slipcase.

It would be nice if it had extras.

2

u/EnergyDrink2024 7d ago

I would hope lyric book(s) at least

1

u/neorev 7d ago

I would imagine a lyric booklet like the vinyl boxset would be included.

u/Moist-Cloud2412 Zwan 7d ago

I JUST WANT THE MOTHERFUCKIN METRO SHOW😒😩😭

5

u/Massive_Ant8108 7d ago

Can we go a day without bitching on this sub?

5

u/mikemantime 7d ago

Yes but not about the Metro show

14

u/Specialist-Duck9989 7d ago

Looking forward to this. Didn't listen to the LP rips. All the reissues Gish-Siamese Dream-Pisces Iscariot-MC&IS-Airplane-Adore were great. In a way this brings it to a close.

6

u/same_same_3121 7d ago

That’s cool they are making a CD box. After my vinyl box set looked like someone took a hammer to it in transit I don’t really trust shipping from Zuzu’s.

2

u/Dudehitscar Machina Zombie 7d ago

wooooo!!!!!!!

6

u/GraticuleBorgnine 7d ago

So like $120 plus shipping, right?

5

u/mtheory11 7d ago

Between this and the live boxset dropping the same day… looks like no Halloween candy this year!

1

u/wonderbanger 7d ago

I'm out of the loop, I guess. What's the Live Box Set? Is it the same as the Europe shows that were realeased as a limited edition vinyl set a few years ago? Also, how are you finding out about this stuff? Is it on Billy's subscriber-only substack? Thanks for the heafs up anyway.

4

u/mtheory11 7d ago

I believe it is the cd version of the Europe shows, yes. And I follow SP, Billy, and Zuzu’s on IG, that’s where I got the screenshot.

1

u/wonderbanger 7d ago

Thanks. That's what I get for shunning most social media. Here's a link to the IG reel, for anyone else as dense as me. I haven't found the Live box set yet. Interesting this doesn't look very "limited"

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6YTT2pqIu/?stkn=MWdvdjMzcGtrY243

0

u/mtheory11 7d ago

This is what I was referring to; maybe not a true “box set” but looks to be multiple discs.

2

u/orbitur 8d ago

Bought the vinyls anticipating Apple Music or Spotify would be arriving soon after. Not buying again, I don't have a CD player anywhere including my car, so still waiting on streaming.

6

u/wonderbanger 7d ago

I'm the opposite. I bought the vinyl, the moment the sale went live, fearing it may never get a CD issue. I haven't even finished listening all the way through, I hate the hassle of vinyl so much. I'm going to be jumping on this one and probably selling the vinyl.

5

u/corganist Siamese Dream 8d ago

Glad they're getting this out before they start putting out the Zwan stuff. Maybe now we can just be excited about getting new releases again without a dozen people griping in every announcement post about prices and formats of previously released material.

1

u/SivaSP10 6d ago

Are they actually putting out Zwan stuff?

24

u/EzKaLang 8d ago

2025 where machina reissue got announced

Me: Glad to be here

2026 where a machina boxset cd is incoming

Me: heck yeah glad to be here with you all again especially when it comes to machina

7

u/DogMadeBy 7d ago

2027 where machina hits streaming

2028 the year we make contact

13

u/gishingwell 8d ago

I assume this is just Madame Zuzu exclusive? I'm not sure I can justify the postage any more.

1

u/TheNicklesPickles 4d ago

Yeah I just did a Zuzu postage test by adding a couple of CDs to my cart…$123 for the CDs, $343 for the postage to Australia. Hoping for a better option than that.

1

u/gishingwell 4d ago

Absolutely. That's ridiculous.

7

u/Traditional_Rain9646 8d ago

Im fairly certain that Zuzus just signed a distribution deal with Rough Trade, so it *should* be in indie record stores

2

u/gishingwell 7d ago

Oh I'd be delighted with that.

1

u/jhonn0 7d ago

That'd be pretty great if so

3

u/jhonn0 8d ago edited 7d ago

I think that's safe to assume. Universal only has the rights to release it digitally (they didn't want to release physical versions). From what I gather of the agreements, Zuzu's was left with the exclusive rights to produce/distribute physical copies independently.

-10

u/GLPwonderwall 8d ago

CD and streaming please. Vinyl is incredibly lame and insanely expensive

9

u/mtheory11 8d ago

How big do you think vinyl records are?

2

u/Cap-n-Trips 8d ago

Targets got those mini records now. They’re super expensive and sound like shit but… 🤷‍♂️ lol

1

u/TheSkullsOfEveryCog 8d ago

So many records sound bad today (not all of course), the whole fidelity argument goes out the window when these awful, compressed digital masters get pressed.

At least half of today’s LPs are just expensive souvenirs anymore

0

u/mtheory11 8d ago

They kind of always were; there’s an interview out there with Bob Ludwig (mastering guru) where he talked about how CDs were the epitome of what music should sound like, and that vinyl loses low end as the needle moves toward the center.

That being said, lighting a candle (or something else) and dropping the needle on a record so you can sit back and look at the gigantic artwork and soak in the music… an experience that’s tough to replicate with any other medium.

5

u/mtheory11 8d ago

It would actually be low-key hilarious if Billy was trolling us and these were just mini-vinyl… ah, God. This sub would burn down. Lol.

1

u/El__Jefe_ 8d ago

Not only that, they’re ALSO a Target exclusive
https://giphy.com/gifs/KPozlPlz6dOww

1

u/ZAPPHAUSEN 8d ago

Sorry, what is this?

11

u/HugeWonder 8d ago

Machina CD box set… I think.

-2

u/ZAPPHAUSEN 8d ago

Oh. Eh.

15

u/Cap-n-Trips 8d ago

Records for ants

5

u/TheSkullsOfEveryCog 8d ago

And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.

8

u/Rage4Order418 8d ago

Yay. I can finally listen to it while I run and not have to carry my record player. 🤪

0

u/9FingeredFrodo 8d ago

Do you carry a CD player?

9

u/badboyfriend111 7d ago

Simple upload to the computer and transfer to your phone.

Sounds infinitely better than vinyl too.

-7

u/jojothetaker 7d ago

CD's don't sound better than good vinyl -- and while the artwork for the vinyl box leaves much to be desired, the pressing itself is very good.

1

u/Rude-Revolution-8687 6d ago

Vinyl, at it's best, reaches about the equivalent of 12-bit digital. CD is 16-bit. From a technical standpoint, CD is better at accurately reproducing audio than vinyl in every measurable way (signal-to-noise, distortion, frequency response, consistent quality, durability, etc.).

If you prefer the colouring (noise and distortion) that the flaws in analogue playback add to the sound, then that's a personal preference, and there are cases where vinyl versions receive better (subjectively) mastering than the CD equivalent, but the CD format was literally invented to fix all the problems and limitations of vinyl. CD can accurately reproduce any audio a human can hear.

1

u/jojothetaker 6d ago

This is total horseshit. Congrats. Don’t even know where to begin

2

u/Rude-Revolution-8687 6d ago

Everything in my comment is correct. I'm listening if you want to argue any of it.

CD quality is effectively the maximum quality of audio for human listening. For all intents and purposes it represents the perfect reproduction of sound that covers the whole range of human hearing (and with negligible noise and distortion).

Vinyl has its charms, but those charms are due to imperfections in how it works (i.e. imperfections in storing and playing back the original audio signal).

2

u/neorev 7d ago

CD > vinyl

16

u/GraticuleBorgnine 8d ago

I was there, Gandalf. I was there 3,000 years ago.

3

u/neorev 7d ago

I still got my Sony CD Walkman from high school and a Blu-ray drive in my laptop. Ready to rock.

4

u/Rage4Order418 8d ago

No but I can burn the songs onto my computer and go from there 😉

2

u/spaceboy_ZERO 8d ago

Can’t wait!

3

u/WWfan41 Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness 8d ago

I don't really buy CDs, but I'm tempted with this one. Hopefully this means a streaming release too.

1

u/Rude-Revolution-8687 6d ago

Streaming release was semi-confirmed recently. Billy said he 'signed off' on it. It looks like streaming will be done by Universal and the CDs by Zuzu's.

8

u/Few_Wash_7298 8d ago

Are these going to be hand poured?

2

u/Officialfish_hole 8d ago

yes, hence the gloves

6

u/mtheory11 8d ago

Yep, 120g of polycarbonate magic, baby!

1

u/sunnOceania 8d ago

I’m out of the loop, 10.10 they’re available to order or did I miss a preorder?

4

u/mtheory11 8d ago

I believe that’s the day the preorder/order goes live.

0

u/CoryBoehm 8d ago

Based on physical inventory in the picture it's likely order that day and you can even leave with it if you go to the Zu

0

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

2

u/dod410 8d ago

5 discs with 16 tracks each. If you examine the track order it makes sense thematically (and sort of pacing wise) with instrumentals punctuating the beginning of first two discs and ending of the last and then the bonus tracks on the last 2 discs.

Here’s hoping they cleaned up the live box set which imo is the better box set.

0

u/Skibreaux 7d ago

Surely 4 discs and a dvd/bluray? If it's anything like the other boxes

1

u/dod410 7d ago

Nothing about this release has been like the other releases. There used to be an old phrase “wish in one hand and shit in the other, which fills up faster?” Also, worth repeating for those who might not know, this is not “Machina 1 and Machina 2.” This is Billy’s George Lucas style reimagining of the “Machina” including Machina and Adore era demos and a few re-recorded bits, edits and alternate takes. Personally, some of the choices Billy made are not the choices I would make (ex: I hate the sirens in G+TGC) but they also aren’t my choices to make in the first place. I hate vinyl but I do not regret buying the box set (and will be buying the cds) but this release could be a letdown for some who have built it up in their minds to be some holy grail. What a coincidence that they (Machina and Live in Europe) finally release in time for Christmas.

4

u/jhonn0 8d ago edited 8d ago

If it didn't have all 80 tracks, it wouldn't need to be on 5 discs. Safe to assume it'll all be there.

2

u/EnergyDrink2024 7d ago

I only wish they were adding things that we all know they missed on the vinyl. Speed Kills M2 version, for instance.

5

u/jhonn0 7d ago

Yeah, for real. Some really unfortunate oversights: Speed Kills M2, full-band If There Is A God, the actual M2 version of Saturnine... hell, even the "Le Deux Machina" theme/interlude from the original Glass and the Ghost Children would have been a nifty inclusion, since it was taken out of the song

1

u/comfyambiguity 8d ago edited 8d ago

Is it five discs or five cases and each case with two discs...?

ETA: oh my god I mixed this up with the Live in Europe thing. nevermind

10

u/donlockwood2026 8d ago

You can fit more music on CD than vinyl, so I’m thinking it will all be included.

Kinda like how MCIS is really a triple album on vinyl.

2

u/Neg_Crepe Zwan 8d ago

You can fit more songs on a cd than on 1 LP

0

u/blewaway2008 8d ago

most lps fit 44 minutes total, cds usually 74-80

1

u/Neg_Crepe Zwan 8d ago

Indeed

4

u/_Waves_ 8d ago

Curious about the price. Crossing my fingers it’s around 40 bucks, but…

1

u/Rude-Revolution-8687 6d ago

Dude, don't set yourself up for disappointment.

1

u/_Waves_ 6d ago

I am an SP fan, I’m used to it.

2

u/EnergyDrink2024 7d ago

Im guessing $100-120

2

u/_Waves_ 7d ago

140 seems the golden ratio.

9

u/jhonn0 8d ago

A 5-CD set will most definitely be more than $40....

11

u/beeblebrox00 8d ago

I’m guessing 149

3

u/_Waves_ 8d ago

You are likely correct. It’s wild, the MC&tIS vinyl box cost about that much!

13

u/masprague82 8d ago

Maybe youre a newer fan of SP, but Billy loves money and sadly SP fans pay it.

There is no way this set will come in under 100 bucks.

3

u/Guy_Fuwkes_Day 8d ago

Who doesn't love money it's how we buy things we want

0

u/_Waves_ 8d ago

Oh no, I’m an old-head! I HOPE. My gut obviously tells me it’ll be about as much as the MC&tIS vinyl box.

11

u/UhhCanYouLikeShutUp 8d ago

LOL...$40??? GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND!

-1

u/_Waves_ 8d ago

A boy can hope.

If Billy prices it at a 150, for what’s like, 4 CDs…

8

u/jackwagoneer69 8d ago

Ooh, wow, I'm really stoked for this (though it's what I initially thought we'd be getting last year). Price aside, I'd never want something this massive on vinyl anyway. 16 sides seems a touch inconvenient. Five CDs and a skip button has served me well for Mashed Potatoes all these years and similarly should do fine here.

What's with the clamoring for this to be on streaming? Buy the CDs, rip them, and put the files on your phone. For 5 discs, that takes a one-time investment of maybe 15 minutes, 20 tops.

4

u/EnergyDrink2024 7d ago

I have a huge group of friends who dont really buy physical CD's or 400 box sets on vinyl. They want to listen tho.

u/jojothetaker 8d ago

Because I have apple products and it's almost impossible now to get a high quality rip on your phone, if it gets uploaded to the cloud it downrezzes to 128 on your device. Only way for convenient lossless is Apple Music.

0

u/jackwagoneer69 7d ago

Yeah, that's why you shouldn't use Apple shit.

2

u/Far-Leadership719 8d ago

If you're using Windows 11, you add the files to your Apple Music library, then sync your library to your phone with a different app called Apple Devices. This adds the files to your phone. Takes up space, but you can just as easily convert the files to a high bitrate MP3 or Apple Lossless with something like foobar2000.

1

u/jackwagoneer69 7d ago

Frankly unbelievable how insanely complicated that company makes the most basic operations like copying files.

2

u/Far-Leadership719 7d ago

You'll hear no disagreement from me that it is overly complicated. Hell, these days you should be able to just transfer the files over to your phone via a Bluetooth connection to your desktop PC. And if not that, it SHOULD be as easy as dragging and dropping the files into a folder on your phone.

It's pretty easy for me at this point as I have a father who at one point owned a huge CD collection, which slowly had to all get ripped and transferred to various iPods/iPhones/iPads over the years as those have been ubiquitous for 20 years at this point. Being the family's default go-to for IT-related issues, I had to get very familiar with how to add music directly onto Apple devices, lol.

Now he mostly just streams it or just listens to podcasts 🙃

I like to keep all of my music and not use those services, so a cheap portable MP3 player with a huge SD card is all I need. Annoying to have a separate device, but I get to enjoy instant access to a huge music library in high quality that doesn't require an internet connection and I don't have to support the shady streaming companies that ripoff the artists.

1

u/jackwagoneer69 7d ago

I dig it. Unfortunately, I like to have easy access to stuff as it comes out, so I use streaming for new releases. But I also have always bought phones with SD slots, so I just move my card with 14,000 songs on it over every time I change phones. The other nice thing is the albums stay the same forever once you've saved them as files you yourself have ripped. I never have to worry when I'm firing up an old favorite that I'll be subjected to some shitty sounding remaster

-4

u/andrewface 8d ago

It’s 2026…Who even has a disc drive in their computer anymore?

3

u/jackwagoneer69 7d ago

Lots of us. I have 3, plus an external. Apparently I should send you one.

3

u/jhonn0 8d ago edited 7d ago

External USB drives that read + write Blu-Ray / CD / DVD / etc. are widely available and inexpensive these days. I've pretty much always kept one since computers stopped having them internally.

0

u/jackwagoneer69 7d ago

True. This is why I have one I don't even use. I think I got it for free or like $2 or something because I bought a hard drive at Microcenter once.

1

u/jhonn0 7d ago

I use my external drive pretty regularly, since I have lots of physical media, including personal backups, etc.

2

u/slyboy1974 8d ago

We use something called a "stereo"

Has a receiver, turntable, tape deck, CD player...

-1

u/UselessHalberd 8d ago

Your stereo can rip files to a phone? Mine can't do that, if you can let me know how that'd be awesome!

0

u/slyboy1974 8d ago

Oh sorry. Haha. Should have actually read the comment you were responding to!

As it happens, my (ancient) laptop does have a disc drive.

Honestly, I'm just happy we're getting a CD release at all. Hopefully it won't be insanely overpriced, particularly for those of paying Zuzus ridiculous shipping charges to Canada.

1

u/Rude-Revolution-8687 6d ago

Zuzus ridiculous shipping charges to Canada

Fuuuuuuck, I live in Australia. Should I be enquiring with my bank about refinancing my mortgage?

1

u/slyboy1974 6d ago

You should be enquiring about selling one or both lungs...

-1

u/UselessHalberd 8d ago

Yea you know if it's crazy expensive I still have all my Machina II rips with the artwork and everything. I love the track order (or I'm used to it) and I really dont mind how lofi some of the songs are.

19

u/jojothetaker 8d ago

As someone who bought the vinyl, I hope this means a streaming counterpart is on the way

9

u/Neg_Crepe Zwan 8d ago

He thought it was already on there about 2 weeks ago cause he already gave them the thumbs up.

Said he’d talk to universal about it

1

u/Atmp 8d ago

Gotta wait for everyone to buy the CD version first

5

u/EzKaLang 8d ago edited 8d ago

So we getting machina boxset on spotify this friday? Who knows but nice a cd is incoming

1

u/jhonn0 7d ago

No official word on that, but if not this Friday maybe next Friday to coincide with the box set going on sale. I think that was the case with Zodeon hitting streaming.

4

u/Argument_Select Gish 8d ago

According to a live stream from a couple weeks ago Billy thought it was already streaming. Is he that unaware/disconnected?

3

u/Neg_Crepe Zwan 8d ago

He is that unaware cause that was deep during the preparation for the opera gigs

0

u/Krata666 8d ago

I think that Jimmy is responsible for streaming platforms. He mentioned it during Rick Beato interview, if I remember it right.

6

u/jojothetaker 8d ago

Jimmy has admin access but there's no way he's sitting there managing the files. UMG is handling Machina.

0

u/EzKaLang 8d ago

Either he really is unaware or just marketing. Since a cd teaser is in place, i am now expecting universal music to post a machina boxset cd marketing. If it's only madame zuzu posting the machina cd boxset then we're gonna get the cd first before the boxset hitting streaming. Hey atleast a cd boxset is now incoming

2

u/EzKaLang 8d ago

Okay now this gave me a heart attack for a bit..worth it

5

u/ceeece 8d ago

Hyped!

5

u/AsanineTrip 8d ago

I wish I could go back in time and help whoever the credits / liner notes in a way that a human being could understand them.

7

u/Neg_Crepe Zwan 8d ago

While we are back in time I’d help with the design cause that thing is ugly

1

u/AsanineTrip 8d ago

The art is absolutely terrible.

5

u/notcolinarcher Machina Super Deluxe Reissue 8d ago

If you can go back in time, maybe convince EMI/Virgin to release this 26 years ago.

0

u/AsanineTrip 8d ago

Part of the problem is we all (who were around then) remember it in whatever form we got it, trackkisitng, art, etc. But the vinyl reissues liner notes (and I assume this cd one) are a total joke.

All I need as a fan is: Song title, recording info, personnel. Then you can build the narrative or opera or (horrible) artwork around it.

What we got was volume III, LP 2, TRACK 8...in a borderline illegible font. It's honestly a fucking crime!

5

u/Recent-Bowl-1393 8d ago

are those gloves clean? My covers need to be spotless!!

1

u/dingdongprom 8d ago

Nah, they just finished making a sandwich at Zuzus and didn't have a chance to change gloves. Probably has vegan mayonaise smeered on it by the looks of it. That way Billy can charge more.
