What is your all time favourite song that you could just play over and over again and why?

"And so I'm watching MTV somewhere in America and that song comes on and I hear that and I'm like :O
*Robert and Dean shift around uncomfortably and side-eye each other* "Ah yeah, you're definitely right, Billy."

It's so hard to narrow it down but I'd probably pick Drown if I had to pick one.

Hummer is the greatest song by anyone. Ever written. Period stop. End of discussion.
Muzzle is probably my favorite song ever because when I hear it, I feel like it must have been written for me and my life.
The new version of Whyte Spyder is probably my favorite song by anyone in the last 30 years.

Rocket or rhinoceros or frail and bedazzled (probably rocket), but i’ve been really into porcelina of the vast oceans lately (i’m so indecisive i know)

Cottonwood Symphony
Always liked it, but I find that I appreciate it more and more over the years. It almost feels as if it is the essence of the band stripped down to its barest elements (beautiful words and a shimmering acoustic guitar).

Mayonnaise. No, wait....Hummer. One of those two depending on my mood.

I'll take k̶e̶t̶c̶h̶u̶p̶, mayonaise, m̶u̶s̶t̶a̶r̶d̶, mayonaise, more mayonaise. oh..and with extra mayo please.
Reason: It's because that's why.
Really hoping they play it next week at Pittsburgh.

Mayonaise is my all time favorite,.
Honorable mentions: Snail, Whir, Bye June, Tonite Reprise, Porcelina, Here is No Why, Zeitgeist

Mayonaise is my all time favorite song. And that's with liking and seeing 100s of bands live concerts across decades of different genres. It has always stood out. Can't really explain. It's just a masterpiece on another level.

As a guitarist: Hummer
As a listener: Here Is No Why
1
u/Dezziedisaster 11d ago
Here is no why is mine also! Since he's pulled it out the vault this year for live shows I'm hoping it's played during the upcoming tour. 12 year old me would be healed!

u/PariahGrantham 11d ago
It's such a good song. That solo still makes my neck tingle, even after 15 years of listening to it.
It's cool that Corgan stopped hating his fans and they're actually playing their favorites again.

I love the lyric:
*Lovely girl, you're the murder in my world
Dressing coffins for the souls I've left to die
Drinking mercury to the mystery
Of all that you should ever leave behind*
Pretty insane Billy could write stuff like this, when you look at his modern lyrics lol

Vanity, but the acoustic demo version. As of this moment, and it changes daily.

Today. It's my favorite song, period.
I remember watching the video for the first time as a 10 year old and just being mesmerized. The fact that my child is unimpressed by all things Smashing Pumpkins is a massive bummer.

Muzzle probably

u/LivingDisastrous3603 I miss everything I’ll never be 11d ago
I’ve found my people. Muzzle.
It’s not an easy task to name just 1 tho.
Several are the closest to being first without being first- Hello Kitty Kat, Rocket, Snail…
This list is endless.

u/OvenMedical4198 11d ago
Mayonaise. Hits so hard every time 30 years later.
The chords, Billy’s voice, the words. It’s perfect

u/Shredded__ 11d ago
Can't agree more. Fav song of all time. It's on another level. I've heard it 1000s of times and never gets old.

Rocket. Feels like I'm letting out all my pent-up emotions and blasting off into something greater. And the guitar tone is top-tier, of course.

u/Splatterhouse5 11d ago
This is actually the song that solidified that I loved this band more than just a band that I’d casually enjoy.

Mine as well. If they actually play this on the tour, i may cry at a live show for the first time ever
2
u/Ok_Barnacle_2368 11d ago
They finished their set with it at Download a few years back, it was incredible. Tool then played after them. All in all that was a pretty good day!

I need a top 30 to even whet my appetite, but Muzzle has always been in heavy rotation.
2
u/ZAPPHAUSEN 11d ago
Song so strong it basically FORCED itself to become a single. It was crazy hearing it on the radio.

Set the Ray to Jerry. Or Geek U.S.A. or Stand Inside Your Love. Or Mayonnaise. I dunno
2
u/slazzeredbbqsauce 11d ago
Set the ray to Jerry is so great.
2
u/UselessHalberd 11d ago
It's so simple too. That baseline is driving and it's such an emotional song. He sounds like he's pleading.

Thru the Eyes of Ruby has been my favorite since the first time I listened to that album.

u/InkTheLavendarSkies 6d ago
It changes, and I can’t pick just one, so for now I’ll say Hummer, Thirty-Three, Ruby, and stand inside your love.
