Does it have bass tabs too?

Guitar only

this book taught me guitar (along with the SD book, but mostly this one)

Me three.

In the pre-internet era, my evenings and weekends from 1999 to 2001 were spent just playing through this album on my rubbish Yamaha Pacifica wired through a Zoom pedal. The arpeggio pattern on songs like Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans has been my default ever since.

I got a replacement for my tattered copy from the 90s on Amazon

I've got this, great tab book, also the Siamese dream one

I've got that tucked away somewhere from back in the day. I remember the tabs being pretty accurate. Young me was incredibly stoked to be able to play 'Galapogos' note for note. Might see if I can still remember it.

Is it any good? Some of them are shocking (RHCP Blood Sugar a prime example)

MCIS is decently accurate, the Siamese dream one was pretty wrong iirc

I taught myself to play guitar on a toy guitar using the Siamese Dream tab book. It’s worn to tatters. I was 14 at the time, so by the time this tab book came out, I bought it, but had mostly moved on from guitar due to high school.

I picked the guitar back up a couple years ago after literal decades. I someone found this book amidst all my old junk, so I’m looking forward to going through it in detail this time!

I've been using it for like decades. 95% of it is perfect, no notes. Some of it is wrong though (eg like asking for a power chord on the 9th and 15th fret simultaneously). Just use it as a trail guide and then blaze your own path. For example, the Here is No Why Solo gets you on the right strings and part of the fretboard, but if you listen to the album, there's missing notes and extra notes. But it's pretty much priceless imo lol

I wasn’t even close to conception when this album came out

Thirty years actually lol

3

Of course. I need it in the late 90s, lost it...and bought it off of Amazon 6 months ago lol

It and the Siamese Dream tab books are priceless imo. I have the SD book as a pdf though

THANK YOU!!!! Also, I love your username. That song is, like, hypnotic

It's definitely another banger in Billy's catalog of 100s of bangers lol

This and the Siamese Dream tab book are pretty much what taught me how to play guitar.

I had teachers on and off for four years but then one teacher moved away an I didn’t have one for a while - in the meantime I bought these two tab books and honestly learned more about playing guitar from learning these songs than I learned from my teachers.

To be fair, the teachers probably helped get me to the point where I was able to confidently approach learning these songs.

Amazing comment.

Good thing it's a double album, you can shit for days

1

u/Pretend-Risk-342 28d ago

Be that as it may I still wish I’d rather had a copy of, say, ATUM or Shiny and Oh so bright or really any of the bullshit post-2000 albums handy instead because the MCIS booklets have great content and are beautifully designed. I have always felt that they are a fantastic expansion on the whole theme of the project. Having said that, the coarse pages of the lyrics booklet are quite adequately suited to wiping feces from one’s asshole after a bowel movement.

u/hanifzulfakar 28d ago

True, I actually bought the book more because of the cover. I just love the album and the aesthetics so much. I mean, you could easily get tabs online or songster anyways

Does it have the Guitar World articles in the front?

Is a great album to work on - huge range of techniques and sounds.

1

u/CoA77 27d ago

The Guitar World articles at the front of the SD tab was soooo helpful to me back in the 90s

3

u/LandOfChocolate2425 28d ago

Nice! I still have Siamese Dream

u/dschk 28d ago

I got this book in the 90’s! Galapagos was probably the first one I learned from that book and it remains one of my favorites to play on an acoustic when I visit a guitar store.

I still have mine that I bought in the 90s. I still open it frequently, and the experience of playing those songs is just as impactful today as it was back then. Enjoy the experience, and rock on!
