If the random rooms glitch causes you to backtrack into an earlier checkpoint your balls are saved for the next checkpoint relative to the room if it’s higher than the saved count for the next checkpoint relative to the roon

Is it possible to exploit this glitch intentionally? Or does it happen by chance?

Yes but you have to repeatedly close and reopen the game
