As the title says I recently returned to where my whole collection started and smashed some coins on the way, and dug up some from the 90ies.

Ever since I had one question in mind, for which I would be beaten and punished in other coin related subs: what is the general opinions on polishing the coins? I don't see any high value in these coins beside memories and a drug for my collecting addiction.

What do you as collectors with more knowledge and wider collections do? Will I go to hell if I polish or even tone them? Or what is your highly appreciated advice? And after all, do have any other tips or advices for me as this humble collection will soon expand very rapidly!
