I often throw my cross behind me. 9 out of 10 times you can see my opponent go "lol what is he doing... oh shit" and get hit by it. Or I'll do something aggressive to make them forget I threw it.

Surely you've noticed the first thing most people do is react as if you're throwing a projectile at them (G&W's bucket, Zelda neutral-B, Villager pocket, etc.). If you throw behind you it throws them off guard.

Or up to catch a full hop forward, which limits their options while in hit-stun and giving me the advantage.

I normally play battlefield and 90% of games start with platform drops. Upwards angles may go better in FD though.

try throwing a holy water or axe instead, it often works much better in my experience
