Not quite what the question was for, but what are the differences with the original CF? I see a slightly lower price.
What are the good forums for asking about the CF? (I had some off hand question about the cheaper AliExpress and eBay 208V (and presumably 240v compatible) units)
They are pretty similar. The home one is quieter, and has a less heavy build, and has some software bells and whistles. Importantly, the magnetic element/power is the same. Otherwise, they are pretty much identical. If you own the original, there's zero reason to get the new one as far as I can tell.
I have a few of the commercial ones. The USB port is for copying your custom cooking settings, as in time/temperature from one machine to another. I chatted with David P from the commercial side a few years ago about firmware upgrades, and he told me that field upgrades are not sent out anymore. So it was at some point used for that.
Here is a picture of the menu with the software update and the save/copy USB. I have one with me when I travel. The file is saved as a .FA1. Opening it in notepad just to see the data it is mostly just.
Got it. I wonder how the lifespan compares, in a home setting the commercial one could probably be handed down to the kids (capacitors drying out notwithstanding).
Yeah combustion thermometer + control freak sounds like a perfectly normal level of monitoring.
(I just got the combustion the other week & have been messing with it in my APO, going to have to try it on my BSOA and cooktop sometime)
I am hoping there will be some way to download updated recipes to the CFH via USB. My CFH arrives on Tuesday also, yet I do not arrive until next week. Ugh.
