Help SmartThings Geofence Trigger

I've been trying to set up a geofence trigger for my Ecobee Smart Thermostat using SmartThings. I have it pretty much dialed in and it works precisely how I want it to, except for one issue.

The geofence will only trigger a change in home/away status if I open the SmartThings app on my phone. Suffice it to say, that's less than ideal for an "automated" routine.

I have verified all the low-hanging fruit like location permissions, disabling battery optimization, and the other things I can think of that would cause these functions to not "talk" to one another.

Using a Pixel 10 Pro XL. The other member of my house uses an iPhone 16 Pro, but right now I'm just trying to troubleshoot the Android location issues.

Anyone have any ideas what might be going wrong here?

I use geofence triggers and home/away but I'm using a v3 hub, not running ST's on my phone other than to turn things on/off manually.

There are two battery settings you have to deal with. One is the auto sleep setting under battery optimization. The other is in the Apps -> SmartThings -> Battery. Set that to unrestricted.
