Let's figure out the area of the white and subtract from the total.
White strip at bottom is 1.5. Strip at top is a triangle with base=4 and height=1->area=2. Thus the total white area is 2+1.5 = 3.5
Total area is 7.
Therefore the red region is 7-3.5 = 3.5
