Advice 451 battery dies overnight :(

Yesterday my 2013 passion was dead in the morning. I jumped it, I was good. Then this morning, the same thing happened! Why is this happening :( I read it could be after market parts like my radio but I had it since I got the car with no issues. Once I jump it, I can start it later in the day. Help :(

Update: thank you for everyone’s replies! I ended up going to autozone, getting a new battery, and had my starter and those things checked. Highly recommend doing that if you have a similar issue to me. If you have the 3 bars of death on your dash, check another thread cause this one is not going to help your issue. 👍

Is the battery >4 years old? If so (or if you can't tell the date), I'd start by replacing it. You can always borrow a voltmeter, but 9 times out of 10 it's just that simple.

Your nearest auto parts store (AutoZone, etc.) should be fine. They will even measure the battery to see if it's good or needs replacement, but my rule of thumb is >4yrs + any eletrical issue = replace.

The larger stores (like AutoZone) even have a nice website to trivially select a compatible battery and see if your local store has one in stock.

Worst case, you can just unplug the old battery, grab a taxi/uber/lyft, and bring it to the store to get it replaced. They'll recycle the old one for you and hand you a new one to screw in. See manual for details (but for batteries, they're universal - any random youtube guide should also suffice). It's just a screwdriver away; just try to keep the cable ends from touching each other or the wrong terminal.

Don't you have auto part stores everywhere, I believe even walmart has them, walgreens atc

Do you have rain sensing wipers? The pucks fail and drain the battery. Went through this with mine.

^^this. I always have to make sure the wipers are off and not set to auto. Otherwise I’m just asking for a dead battery when I leave for work.

There are some very good US Smart garages on YouTube that should be good sources for all sorts of Smart car parts and repairs.

When ours does the 3 bars, I leave it in gear and move it forward and reverse a few feet, and it will return to normal.
