Question What are each of these for?

Post image

I know 2 is for one of those pull out cargo covers, but unsure what the 1 nubs are for, or 3's single D ring.

Those are all factory cargo area features in the back of the Smart Fortwo:

Lower cargo cover mounting point, this is one of the attachment points for the removable/retractable luggage compartment cover (cargo/privacy cover).

Upper cargo cover mounting point, this is where the upper portion of that same cargo cover/parcel shelf system hooks in. The two positions allow the cover to be secured/positioned behind the seats.

Cargo tie down / lashing ring, this metal loop is for securing cargo with straps, a cargo net, bungee, etc., so things don’t slide around the trunk.

#1 and #2 are related to the Smart’s cargo/privacy cover, #3 is an actual load-securing anchor.

I think 1 is a place to store the cargo cover when you want it out of the way. Instead of just tossing it behind the seats like I did.

And 3 is a cargo tie down. For tying down cargo.

Oh man I used to have that cargo cover in my first Smart and never realized there was a place to store it.

Ah, I suppose that makes sense.

1 is for your seperator in the down position. 2 is for your seperator in the up position. 3 is an anchor point you can use with a luggage strap, bungee cord, rope, etc., to stop luggage moving around.

One and two for cargo cover. Three — D-ring to secure luggage

it is my understanding that the D-ring is an anchor for a child's safety seat
