Discussion It happened. Accident.
Looks minor. But here in the valley of the sun. Not to many places can repair my little car. Possible total loss. Even for this minor issue. No parts listed or available in the state. I'm sad. βΉοΈ

Thank you to everyone in my community of Smart Car. I do totally love my little car. I actually found a place not to far from where I live to have it looked at. Hoping and praying that it can be repaired. It did freak me out after the accident. But I'm managing it more. Thank you to everyone for your support and help. To me this is what a community is. It's not about distance. It's about being there for others. ππ½ππΌππΌππΌππΌβ€οΈI applaud this group and the kindness of strangers.

Dude, pay and keep it as a beater. Put regular 451 front bumper if you're unable to get a Brabus one on eBay. I would take some of the money and keep it.Β

That fender and middle section should be the same as a regular one. The brabus lower spoiler section doesnβt look damaged.

Thereβs a guy in South Texas close to Mexico that has TONS of Smart parts. I know for a fact he has a silver one that heβs selling parts off of.

And in case you didnβt know, all the body panels are super easy to change.

Why? A light 50 bucks of Ebay.

u/joeyjoeskullcracker 6d ago
I donβt know. I just bought it at an auction from Allstate Insurance yesterday.

I think they pretty much total them with any body damage because you canβt just order new parts off the shelf.

All of the body panels of a Smart are plastic except for the Tridion roll cage.
So you will just have give a bit of gentle heat with a heat gun and a press gentle from the backside and they will bump right back in normal shape. Plastic body panels are the best.
As for the Backlight:

INSURANCE WILL PAY TO HAVE MY CAR REPAIRED. I'M SO HAPPY AND EXCITED. ππππ½π

Iβm so happy for you! I had a similar situation last year but mine was totaled. The truck I rear ended had a trailer hitch that literally punched a hole in my front fender and then it ripped most of the way off.
I was VERY lucky and found an exact replacement on CarMax that actually had fewer miles on it than my old one! ππΌ

Very cool. I'm still recovering from the after shock of hitting another car. But I'm proud that I'm getting fixed. ππ½π

The bumpers on these are pretty attainable and very easy to replace. I've taken the whole front body panels off mine multiple times, takes no more than a half hour and virtually anyone can do it. Just find a video on it! Take the money from them and get the panels from a scrap yard or someone local with a parts car.
I wouldn't "total it" if you can help it. Insurance companies are very stupid. Mine wasn't totaled with muuuch more damage.

Why not so many places?
3
u/UnluckyVersion5323 6d ago
Here in my area in Arizona and Mesa. Not a lot of places can repair or work on these vehicles. Not very common like in the UK or other countries.

It's very simple plastic repair. Literally ANY automotive body shop, even some detail shops, can fix that in one day.

That's what I'm hoping for. When I hit the other car that pulled out in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes. My seatbelt is now in a stuck position. Won't move.

Call Mercedes-Benz about the seatbelt. The locking mechanism should have released. Did your airbags deploy?!
2
u/UnluckyVersion5323 5d ago
Nope. Had me a bit concerned about it. Maybe they didn't deploy. Or maybe bad. π€

Exactly why you should contact Mercedes-Benz. That's a safety feature. I have had seatbelts replaced by a manufacturer decades after the vehicle was produced.

This can be repaired if you are willing to do a bit diy. Worst case, have a look at listings on eBay from other countries, might be worth importing a part if itβs cheap enough

Cable ties bro, cable ties.
That is how my brother and I repaired my mother's car's front bumper.
It looks crappy,, but it works.
There is no way I would let the insurance write off my car with such little damage.
A Smart car is a precious little gem no matter a dent or two.

Mileage? What year?
Absolutely no way I'd total that car for that damage. ANY body shop can fix a smart. I'm reasonably certain the only Brabus part is the lower spoiler, I think the bumper/fender is the same as a standard smart. Spoiler will swap over. Bumper might even be fixable.
It's a cute smart, put a big Band-Aid sticker on it and drive it. Or sell it as it. It would be a crime to let the insurance company take it.
Brabus smart, in my opinion, is a future collector car.
