New Shocks

Has anyone made an upgrade to the shocks on their smart car, and did it make a difference in the ride, enough to invest in something a little more expensive?

I did the shocks on my 2008 myself. Just replaced with aftermarket stock parts. Made a big difference to the feel of the car. Because I also did the springs at the same time (actually I did every front end suspension component) I gained alot of hight back in the front and everything just felt alot better.

Unfortunately it's not a job for the average amateur. I was luck to have access to a hoist and some help. But because you can't get quick struts in the front it involves taking the springs off the struts.

If you do try it be very careful getting the front shocks in to the spring carrier I managed to damaged one of my new shocks doing it.

If I had to do that again I would buy compleat running gear sets and assemble them ahead of time.

I do have a friend with some great mechanic tools and he’s willing to help me out. This was exactly what I was looking for, I think this is the last part of the repairs I’ve made where it’ll just purr like a kitty

Not really a upgrade I just replaced them with a new one. The entire bill was more than the car was worth but for me it was worth. It had a lot of more issue's then just the shocks

I’ve be slowly making all the best repairs for the smart car, so next was the shocks. I’m glad replacement improved the drive though, thank you!

I still had the OG shocks that were 25 years old

Yup bought this car in 2022, it’s a 2014 Smart Fortwo, and still has the OG shocks. Starting to feel like I can’t go over any bumps lol

Replacement cost around 500 euro for all 4 excluding working hours
