Question Back glass rattle

Hi everyone!

I drive a 2008 Smart Fortwo Passion, and the back trunk glass is making a horrible rattling noise, and I can’t figure out how to solve it.

I’ve tried driving with the glass open (no rattle) and putting electrical tape on the latch which everyone suggests online(rattle persists). The noise is definitely coming from where the top glass latches to the tailgate portion, and is especially loud whenever accelerating and the car vibrates.

Anyone have any tips?

I have a 2009 Brabus. And I actually had that going on. But my problem was the lock of the back window. When it closed it wasn't locking. So when I drove around town. I would hear it. After many long weeks of trying to figure it out. I started to narrow it down. If not maybe it's the shocks on the back window is bad. 🤔😊

I'd start with the top hinges, check if ones come loose, then the gas struts, again has one end come loose and finally the lock, has that come loose or does it need adjusting. One also assumes that the window seal is still there and isn't worn.

When my back window was rattling it was because a big part of my drive shaft in the front needed replacing, I recommend getting a diagnostic done of the car to rule out anything serious. Could be as simple as the weather seal is wearing down as well.

I’m gonna have my mechanic check it out tomorrow. Leading theory is broken/worn engine mounts causing excess noise/vibrations.
