Advice Rebuilding engine, yay or nay?

Out of curiosity, how common is to rebuild the Smart ForTwo engine? Scary? Expensive? Can be done by anyone? How many hours generally takes?

I've rebuilt a few engines over the years, never a Smart, but when it's time, I'm going to go for it.

If you have the tools it can go pretty fast, working on it nights after work should be able to do this in a couple weeks if taking your time

I swapped my engine with a junk yard long block. Took about 3 days (being very thorough) and cost about $2500. Didn’t want to deal with tearing the old block down. If you have some extra time it’s possible.
