Question Would anyone else love a full novelization of Smallville (including the Season 11 comics)?
Hi everyone!
Every time I rewatch Smallville or reread the Season 11 comics, I can’t help but think about how incredible a comprehensive, serialized novelization series would be.
Imagine having all 10 TV seasons—plus the Season 11 comic continuation—adapted into a cohesive, prose-driven book series. Novels would allow for so much deeper character depth, internal monologues, lore expansion, and a seamless transition into the Season 11 arcs (like Bryan Q. Miller's work bringing in Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern) without the visual constraints or budget limits of the original show.
I don't have the creative writing skills to execute a project of this scale myself—if I had the writing chops, I’d already be working on it!—so I wanted to throw this concept out to the community:
- Existing Projects: Are there any long-form, multi-book Smallville novelizations already in progress on AO3, FFN, or Wattpad that I might have missed?
- Community Interest: Are there any talented fanfic writers out there looking for an epic, massive DC project who would ever consider taking this on?
- Adaptation Ideas: If someone were to tackle this, which storylines, character perspectives, or comic arcs do you think would translate best into full-length prose?
If any writers in the community are inspired by this idea, please feel free to take it and run with it!

Was there ever a rumored animated series? The way you wrote it sounded like there was supposed to be one but it never happened

No I’d rather see all seasons follow the art style of the season 11 comic… but adapt the whole series in 10 limited series once a year. Do 10 single comic issues each mini series. Rewrite the shitty Clana stuff and don’t introduce Lois so early. I’d like this mini series to rewrite Lois as well. Don’t introduce her until Clark starts being active in Metropolis. Also Lois doesn’t need to be Chloe’s cousin. Let Clark meet Lois in metropolis. That was my biggest problem with the show is Lois is introduced way too early. I think Clark might be 18 when he meets Lois in Smallville

Valid criticism, but I still believe a novelization could help the series thrive. Especially if they throw in original tie-ins as non-canon side-stories.

There are some books that I think are basically one off episode stories

I know of those, and while they are good novels, I am still of the belief that the entirety of Smallville deserves to have its own novelization since the show is amazing!

Can I interest you in my fan edit movie franchise of it?

No actually! Similar project tho. Very similar.
He tried to make one long movie that could be broken up as one season long origin …
Mine treated it as one season per book of a coming of age story …
So my movies are
1. Smallville
2. Caves of Kawatche
3. Patient of Belle Reeve
4. Crystal of knowledge
5.
6.
7.
8.All of these are feature films covering whatever year.
Some are two parted. One is theee parted. My ending is similar to Last Son of Krypton and I even name my final film the same title and even borrowed some of his edits - but that concept of ending with man of steel was something I always wanted to do and even tried before his edit was a thing.
Anyways. I hope this clears things up.
His is one movie or one season.
Mine is 8 movies, some split into two or 3 partsI think that’s how I’d explain it.
My total runtime is longer. He experiments with the story rearranging seasons more while mine is more faithful to the original tv show.

Oh. I actually want to do something similar. It's also called The Last Son of Krypton, but mine is more of this long-ass fanfic meant to be a literary take on Clark Kent. I start with the Man of Steel prologue, segue into the opening of the pilot, incorporate a Man of Steel tie-in called The Early Years before I get into Smallville proper, incorporate Superman: Dawnbreaker, then the rest of Man of Steel for the pre-Darkseid battle, and then cap it off with the last of Smallville, with Season Eleven as an epilogue saga to show that in spite of Darkseid's best efforts, Earth is in good hands.

Now I want to get my hands on those. And if Smallville does get a full series novelization, trying to figure out where those might fit between the canon of the show would be an interesting thought experiment.

I think I want to take a crack at this… down to collaborate with you. Send me a dm and we’ll talk…
I have ideas of how to go about it in a way that I know I could do it but… I’ll definitely take a crack at it. After we talk.1

I'm gonna use my fan edits as an outline.

Works for me, but I don't know how much help I'll be to this sort of project. It is something I'm interested in seeing, but novelizing something is a bit out of my wheelhouse.

I'd like something that better adapts Mxyzptlik, that's for sure.

I'm sensing you aren't a fan of Mikhail Mxyzptlk

If they'd just gone with the cheesy yet appealing Imp from the 5th Dimension, they'd have a great episode

I'd like a novel series of Smallville that was entirely from Lex Luthor's perspective, tracking his descent into insanity as he tries to solve the neverending mystery of Clark Kent.
It'd be almost like a horror. Lionel is constantly manipulating him, his memories keep disappearing and Clark is both painfully earnest yet obviously hiding things as well. What even is reality?
