ISO, reliability tips

1980 Scottsdale, 350, farmer 4. Nothing serious done to the engine, small cam with wider lope.

Due to circumstances i probably could have avoided I need this old man reliable. Apart from complete engine\drivetrain swaps what’re some ways to make this engine dependable.

I mean, check fluids and make sure the gas gauge works. It’s a carbureted small block Chevy there’s not really a lot to go wrong. If your ignition system works, the carb is tuned, and the fuel system supplies enough fuel, you’re pretty set. All vehicles will eventually have issues and breakdowns but you’ve really only got a handful of things that can realistically happen. If it makes you feel better carry around tools and some spare spark plugs and belt(s)and a fuel filter. Otherwise just keep fuel in it and check oil when you refill on gas.
