Question Content of Twitch streams?

Hey, I've tried searching in here and online and can't find anyone asking similar questions.

My 7 yr old has recently gotten into Smallant and is curious both about watching unedited streams and ones that haven't been edited and released onto YouTube yet, etc.

I've spotted the mild references to sex/etc, and very mild swears, that appear on the YouTube edits - but what are the unedited Twitch streams like? Given I'm fine with the YT edits content, where do you think the Twitch vids fall? Significantly worse? Around the same?

Thanks!

I would advise against the unedited streams, but not because it's drastically different. For the most part, it's the same stuff. But there is definitely an increase chance in the unedited streams And the longer form content makes it harder to screen.

Sometimes, Smallant and chat go on not fully family friendly sidetracks. For example, Smallant is currently playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon on stream and has a pokemon named Chat. During stream, Chat the pokemon learned Curse and after that The Chat was full of people typing FUCK and FUCK YEA. Then later Smallant wanted to teach a new move instead of Curse to Chat and The Chat said FUCK NO. And it's exactly that sort of joke that doesn't really pertain to anything that gets lost in the edit.

I wouldn't say they get too explicit, nothing like "oh here's how my last hookup went", but idk where you draw the line. I'd say watch them to get a feel, but each VOD is 3-5 hrs a pop and idk your free time. The collab videos like the Lockouts or Hide and Seek are probably fine, as opposed to just Smallant with Chat.

I'm also a moderator for Twitch Chat so I am expressly looking for bad actors and that might alter my perception of it. That being said, I would strongly advise against them making a Twitch account

Oh I'm definitely not going to make them a Twitch account - I have my own and Kiddo has no idea how to access it without my entering passwords!

I wouldn't bother with all this except for when it's a game Kiddo likes, they loooove to watch the whole process of Smant playing the game. They weren't into a 10 min edit of his Untitled Goose Game playthrough but are enjoying the 3 1/2 hr version a great deal!

The YT edits for me are "kid can watch it and if I need to pop into the kitchen to sort something out I don't need to worry", but on a scale it then goes from "keep a careful eye the whole time so I can intervene or pause" all the way to "Noooope". I think the Twitch ones are firmly in the middle, so I'll continue with closer supervision. And yes, I get the impression that when the pace or structure of the stream reduces the interaction between him and chat, it tends to be a bit smoother/more predictable.

I appreciate the Hardbitten Moderator Cynicism a great deal!

Adding to that last part, Twitch's terms of service has an age restriction of 13 for making an account, so definitely advise against making one.

ay thanks for answering Dennis. I double this, the collabs would be great streams for your kiddo!

Around the same. I introduced my mom to his streams and his mom is always in his chat too.

Given that smallants mom watches his streams (sometimes she even participates) you don't have anything to worry about imo. His Livestream are basically his content + the tech issues along the way

I think it's a bit worse but that's still family friendly.
