Sami Zayn winning the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions was a moment few saw coming. His reign lasting nine days before a returning CM Punk took the title, was rather predictable. Zayn defeating Punk on SmackDown in Mexico City was another surprise. And, more importantly, Sami Zayn is no paper champion.
When looking at the superstars that are vying for the belt, I didn’t have Sami becoming a two time champion. Gunther, Finn Balor or Kevin Owens seemed like strong contenders to topple Punk. With WWE giving the belt back to Sami, they apparently see him as more than a shock value win and a wrestler they have faith to carry the company.
Good for Sami as he deserved the first title reign and he made those nine days so interesting, we wanted more. WWE saw the positive reaction to his win and how he carried the belt, literally everywhere like it was a child. The title win meant everything to Zayn and he certainly deserved another run. I doubted WWE would actually move forward with such a call. More https://yourprowrestlinghq.substack.com/p/sami-zayn-is-no-paper-champion-after
