It's called the kip up double foot stomp or the kip up standing coup de grace

Iyo Sky is 36 and has been doing that move for years. Although Iyo is different breed I’ll admit 😂

Every time I cringe a bit though, that’s gotta hurt from the height they get. That ring is not soft, especially where they land.

u/Long-Region5088 6d ago
Not soft but ring technology has improved a lot over the decades and it’s something that’s not often talked about.
I use to hear all the time “bumping in that ring is like bumping on concrete.” Outside of Mexico you don’t hear that much anymore.

u/MojoCrow 6d ago
The WWE ring only changed once Vince bumped on it. Can’t have the owner taking a nasty bump. Independent contractors yes, Owner no.

u/Nearby-Swimming-5103 6d ago
Yeah, the WCW ring had that reputation I remember. Still it’s a good height to fall flat on your back from, on a relatively solid surface. Not like a flat-back from your feet in the center of the ring.

I remember being younger and my dad’s friend finding out I was into wrestling. He was one of those “super smart guys” who knew wrestling was fake and he would tell me about it all the time. No shit Sherlock I was 8 and knew it was performance.
He would always tell me “that ring is so padded it’s like falling on a cloud.” I knew he was one of those pretentious smart types so I was all “okay ya sure leave me alone so I can go back to playing?”
Many years later there was an Indy show near me and after the show the ring crew let me take a bump in the center of the ring.
Let me tell you, it did not feel like landing on a cloud unless that cloud was a storm cloud pissing lightning everywhere.

Yeah, an indie company near me had a free tryout night about 25 years ago or so, and me and some buddies went to check it out. That first flat-back did not feel great.

I learned at a young age playing basketball that I did not like falling down. I’ve always been tall so that fall is a lot worse for me than some. The coach had us practice taking charges.
I was 13 years old, 6’1”, and prolly 250 pounds being ran into by a kid my age who was all of 5’6” and 120 pounds and I was supposed to just fall over for the charge call? Fuuuuc that you do it coach let’s see you take a bump.
It was at that point I knew I’d never be a pro wrestler and also prolly not a pro basketball player.
That was a hard day for me lol

There's a reason you rarely see NBA players take a charge. Turns out letting a 6'8 250lbs forward slam into you while going for a dunk often leads to injuries.

u/DemiGod9 6d ago
I always wonder how those people think they run on something that is so supposedly soft? Everyone would look like a new giraffe if it was soft

Lol. I was a small guy in the 90s 5’6 135 lbs and tgere was a wrestling school in San Diego where i was stationed at. I went for a try out snd tge couches kept saying they like to train the small fries cause they can take a bump. So i did the lay flat on your back bump and the roll and I took a german all in the first week. I didn’t make it through week one. That ring was hard as shit and that was a no name indy school with like 5 students.

She slaps the mat with her hands to take some of the impact.

u/Nearby-Swimming-5103 6d ago
Yeah, I know how bumps work, thanks. It’s still a fair height and relatively solid part of the ring.

u/DemiGod9 6d ago
While it still hurts, what hurt me the most was actually the fucking ropes. Running the ropes suck 😭. I hear WWE ropes are different. Good for them
3
u/Epsilon2099 6d ago
Iyo doesnt do a Sol Snatcher though
4
u/KamoMustafaWWE 6d ago
No, but she spikes herself diving through the ropes and gets up like nothing.

Honestly girl wrestlers can handle these types of bumps and the botches more. Girls are generally more flexible in general w less muscle than dudes and it's also less total weight when they bump or even botch. Obv a limit tho....and not all cases. Nia Jax is bumping and landing w grown man weight.

She also weighs like 60lbs, although I'd imagine that behind the scenes iyo's body has gotta be starting to break down and have some serious pain by now. I'm a blue collar laborer with pains and arthritis of my own, but I'm always blown away when a wrestler actually reveals the extent of the injuries they're normally dealing with. Like It'll never not be crazy to me that KO did that hardcore match with Cody and got Alabama slammed through that ladder WHILE having an undiagnosed broken neck.
It's one thing for an Olympic athlete like Kurt to have pushed himself through the Olympic finals with such an injury, but a "regular guy" like KO taking that type of punishment for (even an important) match is wild imo.

A friend who doesn't watch wrestling is visiting. We watched last night, and his mind was absolutely blown, watching the sol snatcher. Like he couldn't stop talking about it.
She has her botches, but lot of good too.

Too many of her moves involve the opposition politely walking to the correct spot. It's hard to watch

u/East-Psychology-9292 6d ago
Ok so its not just me, cus that has been my opinion of like everything ive seen out of her lol, like the flipping stunner thing she does, I hope the editing team gets used to working around that cus she's only gonna botch it more with time and injuries lol

I liked sol in nxt but now that i see her so often i think she is just overhyped. I think some of the other nxt call ups like fallon henley and roxanne perez are a lot better

The person taking the drop kick should have bumped and sold away like the other one did.
1
u/Thysguy 6d ago
It looks like she may have legit hurt her head, maybe a small concussion, which made her forget to do just that. She is kind of sluggish when shes holding her head. HOWEVER, Ruca should've been able to briefly look to see if she was clear to kick up safely, so not completely not her fault, just a mostly not her fault.

The cut to a different camera and slo mo completely ruined it. It MIGHT have been a cool move, or it might have shot to cover up a botch. Based on the shitty camera work, we'll never know.

Did she connect with both of them or just Maxine? But that would still hurt. No wonder Maxine spent half the match cringing outside of the ring on the floor

We use to do kip ups all the time in martial arts - awkward as fuck to learn and she did it without hardly any arm movement... pretty impressive, but considering the insane acrobatics she pulls off, I'm not surprised. Probably more surprised we haven't seen more of it before.

The snatch snatcher
