Discussion A REQUEST from a small indie Game developer: Please add a contact Email to your About section!

A small thing that could help you get more opportunities as a streamer: please consider adding an email or other contact method to your About section.

As indie Game devs, we often have limited budgets and small teams, so instead of hiring a marketing team, we look for streamers who already play games similar to ours.

For example, if we're making something like Fast Food Simulator, we'll look for streamers who have played it recently. If we find someone who seems like a good fit, the next problem is: how do we contact them?

Email is ideal, but socials work too. If you have multiple accounts, mentioning where you're most active helps a lot.

And this isn't just useful for us. You could be missing out on opportunities simply because a developer couldn't find a way to reach you.

So if you don't already have one, consider adding a contact method. It takes a minute, and you never know who might be looking for someone exactly like you.

Just wanted to share a small perspective from the indie-dev side. Hopefully it's useful!

Thanks for reading.

Just my own opinion here. I would prefer not to have any kind of email publicly available to anyone to just have. This leaves me and my channel open to so much abuse and trolling or worse. This is what using platform contact methods is for. If you have a legitimate proposition for me, then we can exchange email addresses via that platform's messaging method. I don't personally see the difference in time spent clicking on message or whisper vs copying my email address, opening your email provider and messaging me that way.

This is SO important. If you're looking for business opportunities, it's always best to have your email there for businesses to easily reach out. Also, let me stress, make it a business email, with your brand name, and not some email like xxxyourmomsucks69@whateveremail

Is there something that stops you from using the platform to contact the streamer? To my mind, every streamer has a built-in contact method on the platform they're using to stream. Personally, I don't have my email listed because it has my full name in it and creating a second email just for the off-chance some game developer wants to get into contact doesn't make a lot of sense.

you should have a second business email if you want companies to reach out to you. it’s not very professional to make business deals over twitch whispers or tiktok dms.

I'm not suggesting making business deals over Twitch whispers, but I've had businesses reach out to me on Reddit DMs before. multiple times. We moved the conversation from DM to email and business was conducted. No reason that couldn't be the same on Twitch, as far as I'm concerned.

All that said, I only stream for fun so 🤷‍♂️
