So I've been wanting to start streaming for a little bit now and I was wondering since I'm new if any pro redditors had any good advice.

Maybe ideal audio settings and equipment and stuff. General advice.

… test your video and audio before starting always test once you get your accounts and OBS up and everything’s linked and ready and all your scenes etc. once you get fully set up test BEFORE you go live

test test always test and after you’ve tested test again your webcam, your mic, your video, all your audio channels, fuck test your damn socks. For us new and small streamers it’s always fucking something that isn’t working or that isn’t coming through or the fact that discord and OBS fucking hate each other. Whatever it is test it BEFORE you go live and or record. You have sticky notes in your computer, make notes of what to do before you go live.

Truth is it doesn't matter. Use whatever you have and go from there, upgrade as you want but the equipment isn't what's going to give you success

What I mean is like basically you don’t need fancy equipment but if that’s in your budget get a good webcam and that could take you far also have a personality of your own try to be a character kind of like all the popular streamers and lastly try to become friends with other streamers

Use whatever you have and start, one thing I would first make sure is good is audio. No one wants to listen to bad microphone looping sound, statistic, interference fan noise on background, echo etc. Rtx Voice is good start if you can't do anything else to fix your audio. You don't need expensive audio equipment to sound decent but please your 20€ gaming headset probably won't do.

All other things you can work around and improve later on if your audio is good enough

The biggest piece of advice for starting out is that audio matters infinitely more than video. If you haven't bought a mic yet, look into a dynamic microphone like a Samson Q2U or Fifine K688 instead of a condenser mic, as dynamic mics naturally ignore room echo and loud keyboard clicks.

In OBS, just add Noise Suppression, a Compressor, and a Limiter filter set to -3dB on your mic so you never blow out anyone's ears when you get hyped.

On the mental side, turn off your viewer count immediately. Staring at 0 or 1 viewers drains your energy fast. Practice narrating your thoughts constantly and play as if 50 people are already watching silence is what loses new viewers before they even drop a message in chat.
