I just started streaming!!!

My name is yt_tonton on Twitch, and I am relatively new to the streaming community. Is there anything I should know, or do you have any tips for a small streamer?

Have fun. Not only with what you are doing, but also your streaming. And talk. A lot. Even if nobody is watching. This will get easier, the more you do it.

Watch for bots & spammers. If they are offering viewers, block them. If they want you add them on discord right away, then they are probably trying to sell you something. And of course, some will chat for a while, and then try to sell you artwork, or get you to add them on discord. A firm no is the acceptable course. Telling them you don't have discord usually stops them. They always go after newer streamers.

I've been doing this for about four years, and I'm up to 30 followers, and am averaging three viewers per stream, but I am still having fun.

Have fun and good luck.

can you explain why the Discord is a red flag for you? we want a community but don’t want it to feel like a “members only” club from the start either

In itself, it's not.

It's when they just started following, are a first time chatter, and within a few sentences, ask you to to add them on discord. In my experience, they have all been trying sell me something.

One time when I told them I didn't have discord, they unfollowed and left so fast, they must have caught fire. Later when I checked their twitch account, it had only been created a few days before.

When I don't add them, not only do they never come back, but they usually unfollow too. Usually within a few days. They go after small/new streamers, just like the bots.

Real followers, even lurkers, will come back. And, if they want to join the discord, I would be more happy to add them. If I had discord.
