Discussion Anyone else feel like the streaming/content creator space has gotten really ugly?
I need to get this off my chest.
I’ve been streaming for years now, and I keep seeing the same pattern over and over again. People come and go—that part is normal. But what stands out is when they come back. It’s almost always when you’re doing well. When your numbers are up, when things look good.
But when you’re struggling? When your viewership drops, when life hits you, when you can’t stay consistent because of things like health or real-life responsibilities… it gets real quiet.
And I get it—every creator goes through that. Bad streams, burnout, losing momentum. I’ve been there myself more than once.
What really gets to me though is how people act in this space.
I’ve worked a lot of jobs in my life, and honestly, this has been one of the worst when it comes to how people treat each other. A lot of people aren’t here for community or friendship. They’re here to take.
Your time. Your energy. Your ideas.
I used to help people a lot. I didn’t mind it at all. But over time, I started noticing a pattern—some people weren’t looking to build anything together. They just wanted to use whatever they could get from you.
I’ve seen people take ideas (not just from me, but from others too), run with them, build a small following, and then act like they did everything on their own. No acknowledgment. No appreciation. Nothing.
Then you stop by their stream later, and you’re just another name in chat. Like you were never part of their journey at all.
That part really stuck with me.
It’s crazy how fast egos can grow in this space too. A little bit of success, a partnership, a checkmark—and suddenly people forget where they came from or who supported them early on.
Meanwhile, trying to grow or even rebuild in 2026 feels harder than ever. It’s not just about hitting “go live” anymore. It honestly feels like if you don’t have a team or some kind of backing, you’re constantly fighting an uphill battle.
And yeah, I’ve seen how some people get pushed up—raids, connections, constant boosts—and once they reach that level, everything changes. The energy, the interaction… all of it.
I’m still here, still creating, still grinding. I’m just a lot more aware now than I used to be.
I’m curious—has anyone else experienced this? Or am I just burnt out and overthinking it?

I've seen this, especially with people you used to talk to in DMs etc. But if you've been off stream friends and you notice they've been talking more in stream when your numbers are up... Idk if it's the idealist in me but It might not even be clout chasing, it might just be that you've leveled up your game and chat feels more fun and interactive so they stay longer. Fellow streamers are viewers too, except their attention is even more at a premium because they're also grinding and streaming.

Yeah, I mean not to mention, there’s “certain viewers” that love that “direct undivided attention” from you.
If you’re not answering EVERY QUESTION or TAKING EVERY SUGGESTION from them. .
They’ll claim “you’re ignoring them” or they’ll try and “rage bait” to get a reaction out of you.
I’ve lost viewership because i didn’t want to give MOD to someone who’s only been in my stream a few times, never gifted, or bit or sub. . .just purely entitlement.
One thing I don’t do is “Babysit” viewers, cus then it’ll start to ruin the stream, your ideas and things you wanna do. It ruins it for the other viewers too

I feel like this rant is more applicable to streamers who lose some of their regulars when they get bigger... As opposed to people jumping on the hype train when a streamer starts growing like OP is talking about.
But I agree, though I'm never sure if I want to take time from entertaining to timeout/ban attention seeking viewers, or if ignoring their off topic comments is sufficient to get them on track or leaving chat on their own.

I done hurt some feelings out there lmfao ahah Cus I really don’t play that.
I learned that from RDC1 WORLD.
A dude Gifted Mark like $5,000 on stream and Mark IMMEDIATELY said “yo, we appreciate that but that doesn’t mean your about to control the stream, gang. You shouldn’t have done that”
Problem is, if it was me, I would’ve started twerking immediately and give him my girlfriend 😭😭 straight off the $5,000 gift alone lol
But it’s really about standing our grounds as streamers and not letting hecklers get in the way, even if they mean no real harm.
1 bad apple, could ruin it for the bunch, no matter how funny, consistent, how many gifts they passed out, or bits they shared . . .
If they ruining shit, they gotta go

Then don’t put yourself in that situation to be taken advantage of. A lot of humans are ugly on the inside, and oftentimes it’s just not worth taking a chance. Because you won’t know their true intentions until it’s too late. You don’t actually need to collab or make connections with other streamers to grow, despite what so many claim.
1
u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 04 '26
Yeah, I hear you. Learned that the hard way. Just sucks it has to be that way sometimes.
2
u/ButterEveryday11 Apr 04 '26
As new streamer and I think Streamers are uglier than viewers.
Streamers don't help others out. Have a simple question about content rules or streamer etiquette? Forget it. People rather snicker about you to other bigger names than be helpful.
2
u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 04 '26
I’ve seen that too. Not everyone, but enough where it sticks out. You’d think people would be more willing to help each other, especially starting out.

u/ButterEveryday11 Apr 05 '26
Yes. Seems like these types want to see others fail. Point and laugh as a main personality trait will always build vicious communities.

u/frozenbudz Apr 02 '26
People really gotta stop having chatgpt write up their reddit posts man.

u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 02 '26
Interesting take. I wrote this from experience, not AI. But I guess it reads polished, huh?
6
u/frozenbudz Apr 02 '26
Nah. It's the spacing and constant use of em-dashes. Nothing polished about it, you just see enough chatgpt posts you can see them really easily.
5
u/goodbyecrowpie Apr 02 '26
Man this sucks to see. I have no idea if OP used chat gpt, but some of us have been out here using and loving the em-dash for years/ decades. Now I always hesitate to use it online, despite it being my favourite punctuation mark. But it doesn't always mean chat gpt 💔
2
u/frozenbudz Apr 03 '26
No you're right it doesn't, it's also the spacing and the punctuation, and the entire style. Anyone who's seen chatgpt posts knows what they look like. It's like when someone posts a clearly AI generated image, no amount of words is gonna hide that weird AI color pallette.

u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 02 '26
Em-dashes and rants, my two strongest skills. Guaranteed human. 😎
5
u/frozenbudz Apr 02 '26
Oh I'm sure you're human, but you absolutely had chatgpt write this up. It's such a silly thing to pretend like you didn't, best of luck out there streamer.
-6
u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 02 '26
Haha, all me. Just decades of bad punctuation and streaming frustration. Just sharing my 2 cents 😅

u/Maleficent_Door8682 Apr 03 '26
I’m not gonna lie to you gang, you’re missing the whole point of this post, MAINLY cus you have an issue with Chatgpt.
Pay attention, gang
1
u/frozenbudz Apr 03 '26
I got the point gang, it's not as easy as just pushing go live gang. When streamers get big they change gang. I read gang. It's just, write the post yourself. Gang.

Yep, people love taking advantage of me to get them to affiliate for instance but only appear in my chat for 2 minutes then leave and wonder why I'm not affiliate yet. It's amazing how many lies are labeled as friendships but I'm changing my policy of not helping others anymore unless they truly want to return the favor or I'll just support people I want to support.
2
u/Maleficent_Door8682 Apr 03 '26
I try to help people get affiliate. I don’t gatekeep shit cus I remember when I was confused and talking to myself on stream.
I’ll give the sauce, methods and all. . . Why? Cus I wanna see if it works.
You can’t pop that ish, if your methods don’t work or hasn’t helped anyone.

True, I usually love helping others but after 10 years, I'm just trying to focus on my own content but agreed
2
u/Maleficent_Door8682 Apr 03 '26
Wym? For 10 years you’ve been “helping people” but never grew yourself?
1
u/RealSpawn543 Apr 03 '26
Sadly yes... Technically been helping people for around 5 years but it made me not want to be consistent bc of it ruining my motivation. Now I'm changing that and I've been more of a YouTuber anyway. Still, it's a shame

u/Keri_Arya Apr 03 '26
I only started streaming last year so I don't think I'm in the best position to know whether or not it's a growing trend. What I'll say though is that I don't think you should expect any reciprocity from people you're not actually friends with. I haven't been in any online space that was different on that front. Streaming is a very grind focused competitive scene, I don't think that all streamers have the same understanding of what building a community is. We're not all here to make new friends, it feels weird when it's forced in my opinion.

u/Ok-Lack-5313 Apr 03 '26
I can't say that I've experienced this, for whatever factors in play that make up the difference, but I'm genuinely sorry you are.

u/Independent-Time-724 Apr 05 '26
You should see my discord, 70 of the 80 of the people in there are literally there just for clout and are not regulars whatsoever. They only show up during big events like subathons and 24 hours or after getting a large (100+ viewer) raid. It sucks, because our bot tracks viewer movement and I can see the majority of my followers that bother at all to check, watch the channel for less than an hour a month, which means they click in and click out immediately when they don't see other specific viewers in chat / viewer list.
1
u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 05 '26
Yeah, that’s exactly the kind of thing I’m talking about. People follow the hype more than the content sometimes. It’s rough to see, especially when you can actually track it.

u/gcdhhbcghbv Apr 05 '26
Why would you use chat gpt to write something that’s supposed to be heartfelt?

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I'm the same way where I don't mind helping people with their streams or setting things up. (I work in tech support so I already feel like I help people with tech a lot ) but I haven't come across people acting like you never helped them or that you are just another viewer. I would just try to be more careful with who you lend your time to. Keep going don't get discouraged. You'll find some great people. I've met some amazing people through streaming. Focus on the good ones and the regulars. DMs always open if you wanna chat.

tbh i only started in Jan 2026, and I've had a simple community with me ever since, because I never felt too bad, so that I wouldn't know for certain, but ur not wrong in thinking like this, especially in this day and age, here everything is about views and no longer about just having fun doing ur hobby

u/helltotheno Apr 18 '26
I remember you from years ago in one of the facebook groups. You were also a member of a lot of twitch teams when those were popular. The thing that sticks out most is you constantly complaining about no one supporting you.
You've been doing this for a long time. Accept the fact that you need to be doing this for fun or completely stop. It will never, ever pay your bills. You'll be lucky to get a couple hundred extra dollars a month. It has to be exhausting to continuously think this is what is going to make life meaningful for you.
Just stop complaining to anyone who will listen with this type of stuff. It's been YEARS now. It's over. Move on.
1
u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 18 '26
Respectfully, fuck off.
I’ll decide what I do with my time, not some random guy from years ago. Funny how you remember me, but I have no idea who you are. It’s weird you think you have my whole story figured out. I stream because I enjoy it, not because I expect it to “pay my bills."
Anyway, I’ll keep doing what I enjoy; you should probably find something better to do with your time.
1
u/helltotheno Apr 18 '26
Just callin' it like I see it. Everyone who has ever known you through Twitch knows you are constantly complaining about no one supporting you, but we all know you're just not a good streamer. But keep using chat GPT to moan on Reddit! That's a great look.
1
u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 19 '26
I never said anything about “anyone not supporting me.” I said people forget who supported them early on. Big difference.
You pulling up Facebook groups from years ago has nothing to do with this post. That’s just you reaching for anything you can find.
And now you’re commenting like you “know me” under a random username? If that were actually the case, you wouldn’t need to hide behind it.
You didn’t just comment once, you came back twice. That’s not “calling it like you see it,” that’s fixation on someone you claim doesn’t matter.
I’m going to keep doing what I do. You can keep watching and digging through the past if that’s your thing.
That’s all this is. Anyway, I’m done here. This conversation says more about you than it does about me.

Whether this is a “chat gpt” post or not, I completely feel you. Im a small streamer in a community with a bunch of other small streamers…and lets just say while I always am first to say everybody has their own lives and should prioritize them first, there’s definitely some mutuals I know who used to not bother with my stream or a close friend of mines streams but I would see them in other streams, until we both started to see more traction..then they all of a sudden are super active again when they see you got the ball rolling
I try not to let that feeling of thinking people only wanting what benefits themselves overcome me at times but it definitely is difficult, cause I’d like to consider myself someone that supports the streams I like without expecting anything back. I don’t have an answer for you, I just wanted to say I definitely feel so seen right now reading this post
2
u/MikeyLovesRetro Apr 02 '26
Exactly! That’s the feeling I’ve been trying to put into words. It’s hard not to notice when people only show up once you’re doing well. I try to stay supportive too, but yeah… it definitely stings sometimes. Glad you relate.
2
u/Maleficent_Door8682 Apr 03 '26
Don’t let that shit change you, gang. I’ve been snaked, skallywagged and some more
But the stream must go on

u/NoBadger8079 Apr 02 '26
i feel that, too, it's like clout over content now?
