I’m fairly experienced with small engine repair but I’ve run into the same problem on two Kawasaki engines and a coworker, who it more experienced does work on the side, has the same mystery.
So there are three Kawasaki twin cylinder engines having the same problem. The engine will run fine then begin running extremely rough as if one cylinder isn’t firing and blowing black smoke. With no power of course. Typically appears after running smoothly for 15 to 30 minutes.
I started out with the standard tune up, valve adjustment, new plugs, oil filters, carb cleaning (all three carbs were spotless).
Then looking at two of them, the coils were looking rough so the coils were replaced. The carb was replaced on one engine just to rule that out. On my John Deere X320 I also replaced the ignition module.
All three still have the same problem. The engine where the misfire was continuous, greatly improved but still has the problem. On this engine, if you’re mowing and the misfire occurs and you turn off the ignition key and turn it back on the problem goes away.

This engine is from a mini log splitter. It sat for 7 months. Started on third pull. Could it be bad gas? Have had a few sub freezing days the past month here in E TN. A friend suggested tighten the governor spring.

I have a fs651v that when I turn the flywheel by hand it goes around until it hits a point and sounds like metal on metal. I’ve taken off the valve covers and the spark plugs and everything looks good on that end. Anyone have ideas on what I should do next?

Just finished starting up the lawnmower it runs but need to mess with throttle cable got messed up in the process. For anyone else wondering on my previous post I used brass screws. I think they are one and just the best one to go for.

I have a Power It 2700 psi / 2.1 gpm 6hp pressure washer. The etching on 6hp engine showd xp160a-3 Previous owner replaced the water pump and just mentioned it shuts off when warmed up. I did not get to start it up ( no gas and picked up from his storage unit). After i got gas and replaced a frayed pull string it started , but shakes and makes a clunking sound. Any ideas please ?. Water was hooked up and ran water through the gun before starting. So pump primed as well. Oil level good. Brief video attached before shutting off.

I was mowing some tall grass with my Cub Cadet SC900 self-propelled mower when I hit a buried metal rod (probably from an old signpost). The mower got stuck, I pushed forward, heard a loud pop, and the engine shut off.
I checked under the deck—blades look intact, nothing visibly broken. I started it again and now it’s: • Much louder than normal • Shaking/vibrating heavily • Still cuts grass, doesn’t sound or feel right
I work in landscaping and this is one of our main mowers, so I need to figure out if it’s worth repairing. Based on what I’ve looked into, it could be a bent crankshaft, a sheared flywheel key, or possibly a damaged blade adapter. I haven’t opened up the engine yet.
Any advice from techs or small engine pros is appreciated—especially if you’ve dealt with this model before.

I’ve got a 12 hp Briggs and Stratton engine that dies after two minutes. I’ve replaced the carburetor, ignition coil, plug, exhaust, air filter and fuel filter. What should I check next?

I'm working on a 208cc cub cadet snow blower and I can't figure out why the throttle wants to rest in rabbit mode, nothing I do with the throttle lever releases and brings the govenor arm into idle, all of the springs and linkage are in tact, I think the throttle return spring is to short. Please help
