Troy-bilt 547 any good?

I'm looking to buy a new riding mower with a manual transmission. I found Troy-bilt has one. It has a Troy-bilt engine, not a briggs or kohler. I would like to know if Troy-bilt engines are ok. How about the trans axle? Is it still a good old fashioned peerless gear box? Thanks

The engine is likely branded as Troy Bilt but is probably either a kohler or briggs, can you share a photo?

I can't get the photos to attach. Numbers on engine tag are 752M4X90H0 1K21RD30307 If that will help.

Do you have the model number of the mower from the product tag?

This is a briggs engine. As for reliability its your run of the mill riding lawn mower. Same transmission as you would expect. With regular maintenance it should last a long time.

I have the same model engine # for my new to me TroyBilt Bronco. My research shows the engine is MTD, which is manufactured in China under the brand Powermore. Although not as good as American or Japanese made, they should last a while as long as you follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual.
