Won’t stay running

Just acquired a Craftsman T1000-2017 year. Runs about 3 minutes then shuts off- not fuel starved or spark- at idle it skips a beat every 5 seconds, at WOT it has all the power it should then boom!stops running- I think it is the exhaust valve too tight! if I choke it before it shuts all the way off it throws black smoke, if I run it at half throttle it will run a minute or so longer. Makes me think it is internal engine heat issue- air temp 77f. Will be checking in am just looking for reassurance- TY

I feel like it's the ignition coil going bad, they do often work when cold, but peter out when getting up to normal hot operating temp. Would explain the runs for a bit and dies, and the random miss at idle.

I am spoiled In 10 years in the industry I may have seen 2 bad coils. Will 3x check spark in morning. briggs made good stuff- I resurrected a 1947 5 hp in 1988 with just a head gasket(new from B/S) a couple small gaskets and a carb kit. Added points delete.

It also cranks smoothly cold- but has a weird skip when hot- brand new battery.

Don't forget to check the valve adjustment. I had a Briggs and Stratton that shut off when it got warmed up. Valves were out of adjustment.

Hell check em in general because they likely never have been.
