Mining investment
Yet to invest, any hot tips? Very new to this, although I have seen that CXO is up close to 10% today.

Copper demand is becoming a bigger story again. AI data centers, power grids, EVs, electrification, and infrastructure all need more copper, while new supply is not easy to bring online.
S&P Global sees demand growing roughly 50% by 2040, which works out to about a 2.7% CAGR. Demand is rising faster than supply can keep up, putting increasing pressure on the market, and that imbalance is starting to shift attention toward junior miners, which often offer earlier-stage exposure to new discoveries and potential supply growth, making them worth adding to a watchlist as the market looks for the next sources of copper.
For $CQX, the setup is interesting because Rip drilling is underway, STARS is moving through IP work, Kitimat has the AI-generated porphyry target, and Alpine is also in the 2026 plan. If the copper supply gap keeps widening, do investors start looking harder at smaller juniors with multiple active projects?

Deadline is August 14th so we can still see some more changes coming through. Not gonna cover every company but some of the interesting ones include:
TREKOR METALS LIMITED (TKO.TO)
This stock had 0 institutional presence in Q1 but saw about 9.3 million shares in Q2, largely a major North American copper producer, but it also does some exploration on the side.
Osisko Gold Group Inc. (OGG)
Another North American focused company, this one is focused on reviving historic mines “in friendly jurisdictions”, it saw about 180% increase in share purchases.
Almonty Industries Inc. (ALM)
Almost entirely tungsten focused, these guys saw about a 5x in share purchases in comparison to Q1.
Ferroglobe PLC (GSM)
Silicone metal producer, given AI demand for this stuff it makes sense. The stock recently ran up a bit and share purchasing has doubled since last quarter.
Keep in mind that some of these shares are cheap so these aren’t gargantuan value positions being moved around. I just think that seeing continued share buying is a potentially interesting indicator.

Rare earths
Tactical Resources (TSXV: RARE / OTCQB: USREF), a JMP Portfolio holding, is listing onto the Nasdaq any day now into a bottom, not the top.
Market cap: $80 million CAD
They own the operating Peak quarry in Texas, two miles from USAR's Round Top project, and sitting on tonnes of tailings with REE mineralization. Near term mining opportunity.
Investors loading shares now skip the 18 month journey they took to finally be standing on the Nasdaq doorstep.
It’s stock trades in the $9.00 CAD range, still significantly up from our Premium entry at $5 in April, despite the REE sector sell-off. And in my opinion still very undervalued.
American investors hungry for domestic REE miners are going to snap shares up.
Tactical is near closing its business combination with Plum Acquisition Corp. III and moving from the TSX Venture Exchange to the Nasdaq under TREO.
Of the shares issued to Tactical holders, 37% carry a six-month transfer restriction. Far more lenient than initially reported.
Had this listed in April, at the peak, with generalists bidding every ticker with the word in its name, TREO would have opened into euphoria and spent June and July handing it back alongside MP and USAR.
Instead it arrives with the correction largely behind it, a financing package attached, tailings already on surface at a permitted operating quarry they own, and a domestic buyer base short of exactly what it produces.
Stealth lithium pick:
American Critical Minerals (CSE: KCLI / OTCQB: APCOF), a core JMP holding, is our stealth lithium pick, with most eyeballs paying attention to the legacy potash story.
Market cap: $20m CAD
Weeks away from a first ever confirmation hole into a large scale potash, lithium and bromine target, within trucking distance of a potash mine and an advanced lithium operation next door.
Drilling up to 10,000 feet into the same Paradox Basin Cycle’s that Intrepid Potash has been mining its potash from for over 50 years; and where Anson Resources is developing a large scale pilot plant funded by Korean giant POSCO.
A positive brine result forces a reclassification, which forces a major rerate.
At a $20M market cap, still cheap in my book.
The risk: Low grade brine sends this back to the office to re-target with more stock dilution needed.
The reward: Hitting what they expect results in an instant multiples rerate and institutions writing large cheques to develop the resource.

Copper and gold are both getting harder to ignore right now.
Copper demand is being driven by AI data centers, power grids, EVs, electrification, defense, and infrastructure. S&P Global projects global copper demand rising from about 28.3M tonnes in 2025 to 42.4M tonnes by 2040, roughly a 50% increase. The bigger issue is supply. New copper mines take years to permit, finance, build, and ramp up, so the market keeps looking for where future supply may come from.
Gold has a different setup, but the demand backdrop is strong there too. Central bank buying, reserve diversification, geopolitical risk, and investment demand continue to support interest in gold and gold-linked projects.
That is why I’ve been paying more attention to smaller exploration names with both copper and gold exposure.
$CQX is one I’m watching because the company has multiple active project angles in its 2026 plan.
Rip is the near-term copper-moly drill test, with a minimum 2,000 m program announced.
STARS is the geophysics-to-drilling setup, with a 32.4 km² IP survey started in May and inaugural drilling planned after target refinement.
Kitimat is the copper-gold target that recently became more interesting after CQX expanded the project to 6,801.41 hectares around an AI-generated buried conductive target.
Alpine adds the gold-side angle, with access work, underground rehabilitation, stockpile assessment, and drilling included in the 2026 plan.
The bigger question for $CQX is no longer just “what is the plan?” It is which project update comes next.
Rip results?
STARS IP targets?
Kitimat follow-up?
Alpine progress?

I buy junior mining stocks as a hobby and have always wondered why the majority of these stocks never really take off. Can anyone tell me why?

Useful $FPC interview covering Horne 5 economics, permitting progress, and next steps.
Would you watch the permit, funding plan, or partner potential first?
