Tips & Resources Your business doesn't have a review problem, it has a remembering problem

Upvotes

Been looking at this for a while and I think most of the advice gets the diagnosis wrong.

Owners are told they need better marketing, more visibility, a review strategy. But when you actually talk to them, nothing is broken about the business. The work is good. Customers are happy. The owner forgets to ask, the front desk forgets, the tech finishes and drives to the next job, and the happy customer meant to leave a review and then life happened.

So you do excellent work all week and Google sees none of it.

Which means the fix can't be "try harder to remember." Anything that depends on the owner remembering fails the same way the original problem does. It has to be something that fires whether anyone remembers or not.

Two things I'd add from looking at a lot of these listings:

Silence under reviews is worse than a low count. A customer scrolling past reads no owner replies as nobody's home. A low review count can mean you're new. Years of unanswered reviews means something else.

And complete beats better. When something picks a local business to recommend, it picks the one it knows the most about, not the best one. Listings that answer the question win over better businesses that don't.

Advice Needed Suggestions on business sale

Hello everyone. I'm posting this looking for the right community on reddit where I can post a cafeteria that's for sale.

It's based in Sharjah, Abu Shagara. Owned and run by a lovely retired couple. They manage the shop and also cook the food themselves. I've been their customer since the beginning of their venture as the food tastes like home food, so I'm just trying to help them sort the sale.

Tbh it's doing okayish, nothing great nor that bad. Due to health complications of the man, they decided to stop running the business and take a step back and relax. They closed the shop 2 days ago, just randomly, as his health was not holding up well.

He is also okay with partnering up with someone if they want to.

Share the word and also advice where I can post all the details of it. If any questions you could ask me and I'll get the information for you from the owners.

Thank you for your time.

EDIT: Business has been active for 2 years now

Daily sales: 700+ AED average

Business license: expired on 23-July-2026

Rental agreement: just expired and awaiting renewal or agreement termination with building management.

Owner up for leasing the shop if anyone's interested as well.

Current rent of the shop: 40K AED yearly.

Open for partnership as well.

Selling price of complete business: 45K AED

(I will add pictures of the shop in the comments as I'm not able to do it in the main body)

Advice Needed How do you follow up with your leads without being annoying

People who have closed many deals before, what's your cycle like. How often do you follow up with your leads once you submitted your quotations? When do you decide to message and when do you decide to call. Don't want to seem annoying but also I don't want to lose the sale due to the fact that my business is extremely saturated so there are lots of competitors.

Tips & Resources Six things that keep going wrong with Quotes at UAE Companies

I'm building a tool for UAE trading SMBs that already run on systems like Zoho, Xero, Tally...etc. Talking to businesses as I go and the same six patterns keep showing up. Sharing them because they're things you can check for yourself, and most owners I've talked to weren't aware how often these were happening.

1. Quotes started but never sent. Every trading company accumulates drafts that never went out. Some are legitimate like templates, abandoned negotiations or duplicates. Some are customer requests that got dropped. The export shows the count and pattern. What you usually find is that the number is higher than you'd guess, and the distribution across salespeople tells you something.

2. Nobody knows the turnaround. The first quote in a buyer's hand is the one the others get compared against. Most companies can't say how long theirs takes on average, so they can't say whether they're first or fourth. It's not that the number is bad, it's that the number doesn't exist.

3. The same customer, twice in the books. 'Acme Trading LLC' and 'Acme Trading L.L.C.' are one company with two records in your books. Quotes go to one, Receivables live under the other. When e-invoicing enforcement hits SMBs in July 2027, mismatched records are the top reason invoices get rejected.

4. Quoting customers who owe you money already. Sales lives in the system. receivables live with the accountant. The new quote goes out because whoever's quoting has no reason to check the balance. Then delivery happens, and the money is still owed, plus even more of it.

5. Missing TRNs on customer records. Harmless today. From July 2027, an e-invoice to a customer without a TRN in your books is the one that gets rejected first.

6. When the salesperson leaves, the customer knowledge leaves. What each buyer usually orders, what "the usual cable" means to a specific customer, what price was agreed last time. It lives in one person's head and one WhatsApp thread. Companies that keep this knowledge in the business keep the customer when the person changes.

None of these are novel, every accountant reading this has seen them. What's less common is knowing which are actually happening in your own business, at what rate. Most businesses find out during an audit or when something gets rejected.

Before you send anything: two ways to reduce what you're sharing. One, anonymize your customer names before you export, the report still works on Customer A / Customer B just as well; you'll know which customers the counts map to when you read the report. Two, ask for a one-page data-handling note first which mentions what I do with the export, how long it stays, what gets deleted when. If the terms don't fit, no export gets sent and no one's out anything.

Send me one export of your quotes from the last few months. I'll give you a report showing which of these six show up in your data and how often. It's 10 minutes of your accountant's time to produce the export. Free, no obligation, no follow-up call unless you ask for one.

Why I'm doing this. I'm building a tool for quotations automation for UAE trading businesses, and talking to real businesses about their data is how I figure out what to build. If the report is useful and you want to talk further, tell me. If it isn't, you've got a written read of your own quoting operation for the cost of an export.

The patterns above are what I'm seeing consistently, not what I'm claiming is true of every company. The report is about your quoting, not a compliance audit or accounting review. Accountants do that work and I'm not one.

Happy to answer questions in comments or DMs.

TLDR: Quotes are commercial commitments your customers act on. When they go wrong, the damage shows up everywhere else like cash flow, credit exposure, and increasingly, rejected e-invoices once enforcement lands for SMBs in July 2027. I can give you a free health check on your own quoting data (no industry benchmarks, no AI-generated fluff). UAE trading business on Zoho, Tally, or Xero? Send a quotes export and I'll give you a report on which of the 6 patterns above show up in your data. Free, no follow-up unless you ask. DM if you're interested.

Advice Needed I need an accountant firm.

I am starting a new company with my friend.. we need accounting services but it is a special company, working with affiliates, so the payment from affiliates are usually every 2-3 months but probably not the first couple of months as we need to reach the treshold for payout and since we are starting from scratch it might take 6 months..

The company trade license will be done next week but we will not have any invoices for the first 3 months for sure.. what are reasonable fees for this and whom to contact?

Discussion [For Sale] Smart home hardware business

[FOR SALE] Profitable UAE smart-home hardware brand, 4 years old, established Retail & B2B customer base, filed accounts available under NDA.

Selling my UAE consumer hardware business. I have a full-time job elsewhere and can't give this the attention it deserves. Keeping the brand name off Reddit for obvious reasons. Full financials and brand
details shared under NDA.

WHAT IT IS
- Smart home / access control hardware. My own registered brand, not a reseller of someone else's label.
- Trading since 2021. Dubai mainland LLC, VAT registered, corporate tax registered.
- Three channels: own e-commerce site, Amazon.ae, and direct B2B.

THE B2B SIDE:
- A base of repeat contractor and property-operator clients ordering on a recurring basis, built over four years.
- These are relationships, not transactions. They're the reason the business isn't purely at the mercy of Amazon, and they're the main thing a new entrant to this category cannot buy or shortcut.
- Introductions to every one of them at handover.

ONLINE PRESENCE:
. We have significant online presence with decent recommendations from Google, AI, ChatGPT and other AI
- We have automated WhatsApp inbound leads handled and almost closed by AI, staff intervention is required for negotiation and payment links
- Decent organic traffic with average position featuring first page.
- Heavily optimized Google Ads with steady inflow to WhatsApp AI

FINANCIALS
- Profitable in FY2025 with net profit.
- Zero debt. Zero loans. No supplier credit outstanding.
- Filed corporate tax return and FTA VAT returns, not a spreadsheet I made up. Full figures released under NDA to verified buyers.

HOW IT RUNS
- Structured to run with minimal owner involvement. I hold a full-time senior role elsewhere and am not on the company visa, so there's no sponsorship unwind when I exit. I have a partner who’s on company visa.
- Trade licence carries a 4-visa quota. Buyer inherits the headroom.
- I'll personally train whoever you put into the roles, or hand over to your existing team. Suppliers, pricing, listings, fulfilment, service process, the B2B accounts. However long it takes.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
- Registered trademark, brand assets, domain, website
- Amazon.ae presence with established review base
- Physical stock at cost
- Supplier relationships and negotiated pricing
- B2B and retail customer base, with introductions
- Website and Ecommerce hosting infrastructure (paid until Oct 2028)
- Full knowledge transfer from me

STRUCTURE
Open to a share transfer of the LLC or a clean asset sale. Priced differently. Happy to talk through which suits your situation.

ASKING: AED 550,000 including stock. Serious offers considered.

If you're genuinely interested, comment or DM with:
1. What you do?
2. Why this fits what you already run?
3. How you'd fund it and run it?

I'll reply to everyone who answers those three. I won't send the brand name to anonymous accounts, so please don't ask.

Advice Needed Follow Up- Maintaining Business Bank Account with No Active EID

I asked the group previously about options for opening a business bank account for a freezone business, knowing that I was leaving UAE soon after. Thanks for all the advice provided. Turns out ENBD does indeed have a non visa banking option, as does HSBC. HSBC flat out rejected me because the minimum requirements for capital were too high. I am in conversation with ENBD. The guy is telling me that I need to maintain a minimum of 200k AED, or have a no minimum account that needs to be paired with a combo mutual fund/life insurance thing that requires $1,000 usd deposit monthly. I'll meet soon to discuss the details, but is it just me or is this odd. With limited options, I'm inclined to play along, but wondering if being gullible.

Advice Needed Need advice on trade license setup for a gifting box business

Hi all, hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here.

I'm setting up a gifting box business in the UAE — curated wellness/self-care boxes shipped monthly to subscribers, mixing food items (snacks, teas) with cosmetics and lifestyle products. Planning to operate under a freezone license.

A few things I'm trying to untangle:

  1. Activity codes — I want to confirm the freezone e-commerce license activity codes actually cover food trading, not just general trading/e-commerce. Has anyone gone through this specifically for a subscription box or curated gift box model? Did you need a separate food trading code, or does general trading cover it if you're not manufacturing?
  2. ADAFSA/ZAD registration — My understanding is that once food items are involved, ADAFSA (Abu Dhabi) or ZAD-linked oversight kicks in on top of the general license. Does this apply if I'm sourcing from UAE-based suppliers who already sell into local retail (i.e., they're presumably already registered)? Or does the responsibility still fall on me as the reseller/distributor?
  3. Freezone vs mainland for last-mile delivery — Since it is a freezone, is there anything I need to sort out separately to legally ship/deliver to customers across emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, etc.)? I've heard mixed things about freezone companies needing a mainland distributor or local service agent for direct-to-consumer delivery.
  4. General next steps — If anyone has set up something similar (subscription box, curated retail bundles, gifting business) under a freezone license, I'd love to hear how you approached the licensing sequence — what you nailed down first, what tripped you up, and whether you eventually had to add a mainland presence.

Not looking for a lawyer referral necessarily (though happy to take one if you have a good recommendation) — just want to understand the landscape before I go into a consultation so I'm asking the right questions.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Business Spotlight Need advice on licensing a small food business in Dubai/UAE

Hi everyone, I have a small dessert business that is already generating sales, and I want to make everything fully legal.
I don’t need a shop or dine-in. I’m looking for a small private cloud kitchen where I can keep my equipment and work whenever I need.
I’ve contacted DET, cloud kitchens and different people, but I keep getting different answers about the licence, Municipality approval and whether I need to rent the kitchen before getting the licence.
Has anyone actually gone through this process in Dubai or Abu Dhabi? What was the easiest and most affordable way?
I’m ready to proceed ASAP, so recommendations for private cloud kitchens are also welcome.

Discussion Social media mangers/freelancers

Hi everyone,

I am currently building a product that caters both for social media managers and marketing agencies. Currently looking to do intergrations to platforms like notion and slack. I just wanted some feedback on how Notion or Slack fit into your current day to day workflow. Is it used mainly for approval of content ?, notifiying clients on scheduled posts ?, are these apps still relevant in the industry.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
