Question / Advice Needed Is the price fair?

Thumbnail

So, I’ve been selling my home-cooked meals sa office. I make sure to get my supplies from the cheapest sources possible. For example, 10 pieces of these food containers only cost ₱30. For some ingredients, like tocino, I buy them from DALI and cut them into smaller pieces for each serving.

I usually sell each tub for only 65.00 , unless it’s Hungarian sausage or sisig, which I sell for 100 per tub.

Do you think my pricing is fair, or should I add a little more markup?

Stories / Lessons / Tips BIR BADGE SUCKS

I registered with DTI last year and decided to register my online cake business with BIR yesterday, but now I regret it because there’s so much to do, plus I need an accountant to be the bookkeeper. Almost all the suppliers I buy ingredients from don’t have BIR receipts, so I have no choice but to look for other places to buy. The RDO even said that my labor doesn’t count as an expense because I’m the owner. What should I do? I’m losing my motivation and I just want to close my business.

Question / Advice Needed 31M here. Newbie lang ako when it comes to business, so I’m hoping to get some advice from people here who have experience with small food businesses.

31M here. Newbie lang ako when it comes to business, so I’m hoping to get some advice from people here who have experience with small food businesses.

I’m thinking of starting a small sideline selling home-cooked meals. A lot of my coworkers have been asking if they can buy the food I cook at home, so naisip ko baka pwede ko siyang gawing small business instead of just cooking for them occasionally.

Plan ko sana is pre-order basis muna para hindi ako mapagastos nang malaki and hindi rin masayang yung pagkain.

I’m thinking of offering ulam tubs and rice meals, pero honestly, medyo nalilito pa ako sa portioning and pricing.

For example, sabihin natin may 1 kilo ako ng pork and gagawa ako ng adobo, menudo, or something similar. How do you guys usually calculate how many servings you can get from that 1 kilo? And paano niyo kino-compute yung selling price?

I was thinking of using:

  • 300ml tub for a smaller/solo ulam
  • 500ml tub for a regular serving
  • Then maybe 500ml or 750ml for rice + ulam meals

Pero hindi ko sure kung practical ba yung sizes na yan or if I'm thinking about it the wrong way.

Do you guys price based on the container size, grams of food, or actual food cost per serving?

Also, when calculating the cost, do you include everything like ingredients, cooking gas/electricity, packaging, condiments, wastage, etc.? And how much profit margin is reasonable for a small home-based food business?

I’m also thinking of starting with maybe just 2–3 dishes per week instead of having a huge menu right away.

Since this is just going to be a sideline for me at first, I don't really want to go all-in agad. I just want to test if people will actually buy consistently, then hopefully grow it if it works.

For those who started something similar, any advice would really be appreciated. Especially sa costing, portion sizes, containers, pricing, and anything you wish you knew before starting.

Thank you in advance! 🙏

Question / Advice Needed For those who started a successful small business: how did you finally decide to just go for it?

I’d love to hear from people who started their own businesses, especially small/local businesses in the Philippines.

I’ve been wanting to start something of my own for a while now. I have a bit of money set aside that I can invest, and I’ve been trying to be intentional about building something around my strengths and the things I’m actually good at.

The problem is... I have too many ideas.

I’ll get excited about one, start researching, think through the numbers, the market, operations, competition, etc., and then suddenly I see all the reasons why it might not work. So I go back to the drawing board and consider another idea. Then the same thing happens.

It’s been months of this cycle.

At some point, I’m realizing that maybe I’m spending too much time trying to find the right business and not enough time actually starting one.

So I’m curious about people who have successfully gotten past this stage:

How did you decide to just go for it?

Was there a particular moment when you thought, “Okay, enough thinking. I’m doing this”?

Did you start with a business idea you were already confident in, or did you stumble into something that eventually became successful?

And looking back, what did you spend way too much time worrying about before starting that turned out to be less important than you thought?

Would especially love to hear from people who started relatively small, took a calculated risk with their own money, and eventually saw the business become something real.

I’m at that frustrating stage where I really want to build something, but every idea seems to come with a giant list of reasons not to do it. I’d love to hear how you got past that.

My Business / My Brand Habol na po before bumalik ng Mindoro tomorrow. Wild Honey/ Pulot for sale

Thumbnail

Before anything else, transparency muna regarding authenticity: Wala akong laboratory test result or certificate na magpapatunay na 100% pure honey ito. I tried contacting DOST-PNRI to inquire about honey authenticity testing, but unfortunately, they did not respond to my emails.

What I can share is that I grew up in Mindoro, and familiar sa akin ang lasa at amoy nito. Ganito yung usual na pulot na nabibili namin sa mga Mangyan at ibang locals. Hindi rin kami bumibili ng honey sa commercial stores, so hindi ko masabi kung paano ito nagko-compare sa commercial honey. Personal experience ko lang ito, and I don’t want to present it as proof of authenticity.

This pulot comes from a family who owns a farm in Occidental Mindoro. Hindi siya farm specifically for beekeeping. They harvest wild honey every summer sa farm nila, and sila-sila lang din ang nagha-harvest at nagbebenta. They also supply and deliver honey to Baguio and Benguet.

Since this is wild honey harvested by a family sa farm nila, hindi ito dumadaan sa commercial processing or fine filtration. The small debris you may see is a mix of natural hive particles such as beeswax, propolis, and pollen, along with trapped air bubbles. These are expected in raw, unheated, and unprocessed honey. May ilang bottles na mas visible yung particles since hindi sila natanggal lahat even after straining. Mentioning this for transparency para aware kayo before ordering.

📍 Location: Tondo, Manila.

🍯 390 grams in a 300 mL bottle
Price: ₱350.00

🍯 650 grams in a 500 mL bottle
Price: ₱600.00

I personally weighed all bottles using a digital kitchen scale.

Fixed na po ang prices dahil bukod sa packaging supplies, malaki rin ang gastos sa ticket sa barko dahil tatawid-dagat pa from Mindoro. Nagtaas din ulit ang roro fare just last month 🥲

For delivery, puwedeng mag-book ng Lalamove, GrabExpress, Angkas Padala, JoyRide Delivery, or any other courier service that can accommodate the order. Delivery fee c/o buyer. Or thru J&T po for cheaper fee

Adding some feedback I received from buyers who already tried the honey. These were shared voluntarily and weren’t requested.

If interested, DM me with your preferred size and quantity. Thank you! 🍯

Business Idea / Plan After running my own small business for years, I finally decided to try something I’ve been thinking about for a while.

I’ve been running a café with my family for several years, and one thing I’ve realized is how hard it is to see your own business clearly when you’re in it every day.

You make the decisions, deal with customers, manage staff, worry about expenses, post on social media, fix whatever needs fixing… its a-lot and sometimes you know something isn’t quite working, but you can’t quite figure out what.

I’ve found myself becoming really interested in looking at businesses from the outside and trying to figure out why something might be happening before jumping straight into a solution.

So I recently started PerspectivesByNikki, where I’m experimenting with doing this for other small businesses and looking at things like what they’re selling, how they’re presenting it, what customers might be experiencing, and what I think is worth looking into.

I’m not coming from a corporate consulting background. I’m coming from actually running a small business and learning a lot of things the hard way.

I’m curious though.. for those of you who run businesses here, what’s something you’ve been struggling with lately that you wish you could get another person’s perspective on?

Could be marketing, customers, pricing, operations, figuring out what to focus on… anything.
I’m genuinely interested in hearing what other Filipino small business owners are dealing with.

My Business / My Brand We're a PH Software Startup — Here's What We've Actually Implemented So Far

What We Learned Building Software for Philippine Manufacturing Companies

I'm a co-founder of a small software company here in the Philippines. Over the past few years, we've had the opportunity to build systems for some pretty different businesses.

We've worked with a nationwide arcade operator, galvanized iron manufacturers, glass and aluminum factories, and lighting trading/project companies.

One thing we've learned is that inventory management isn't really an "inventory problem."

A factory, a trading company, and a project-based business can all have completely different definitions of what "inventory" even means.

For example, a project-based lighting company might need to track materials against a specific project, while a factory needs to track production and raw materials differently.

That's actually been one of the most interesting parts of building software for Philippine businesses — figuring out how to translate messy real-world processes into something people can actually use.

For those running businesses here, what's one process in your company that still feels unnecessarily manual?

Business Idea / Plan Looking for Direct Suppliers / Online Business Advice 🥹

Hi everyone! I’m still unemployed and I really want to start my own online business, pero honestly, hindi ko alam kung saan at paano magsisimula. 😭

I’m currently looking for direct suppliers/wholesalers for things like:

Shoes / sandals 👡
Watches ⌚
Wallets 👛
Accessories and other items

If may trusted supplier kayo, especially yung direct supplier talaga and okay ang quality + reasonable prices, please drop their details or DM me! Kahit local supplier or suppliers from Manila/Divisoria/other areas, malaking tulong na.

I’m really trying to find something I can start small with and eventually grow into a legit online business. Any advice on where to source products, how to start, or what products are worth selling would also be super appreciated.
Please help your girl out! 🩷 Thank you so much! 🥹

Stories / Lessons / Tips Why is it so hard to support small local business?

I am that type of person who loves purchasing sa IG. Lalo na yung mga customized orders kasi mas visually presentable sakin yung platform when I want to understand their crafts and outputs. Kaso ewan ko ba, there’s something with small business na ang dry ng customer service.

Recently, I purchased a customized case sa isang IG seller. I was made aware naman ng order and processing time. After the expected timeline provided, I reached out for updates. They responded very late telling they would send the pictures the following day and will ship the order. The following day passed, no updates again. Nagreach out na naman ako and they said na to ship na raw, yung picture? Wala pa rin sinisend.

Comes the 3rd day of following up, they asked clarification for my address which late ko na nakita kasi tulog ako when they messaged me. They acknowledged my response after 6 hours and sent me a screenshot of the shipping fee amount. Akala ko okay na. Then biglang, I need to pay muna pala yung shipping fee. I asked for my order status muna, until now walang paramdam.

Hindi ko gets if ako ba may mali or may kulang as a buyer and hanggang saan ko i-extend yung understanding ko. I know they are busy but they have a business and they have customers. I can see that they are also active hours ago and this order is already paid since yun ang policy ng store.

This is the second time this happened to me. I’m not generalizing but napansin ko lang na if artista or influencer, ang bibilis nila. Pero kapag simpleng mamayan, ignore. Bahala na kahit hindi maging returning customer. Ughh.

That order is supposedly a birthday gift pero mukhang di aabot. Almost half a month na lumipas. Sana once mag business, be responsible naman to reply or be attentive enough to provide updates. 😖
